The FPS 3000 is an excellent training video. I have the older version which simutech no longer supports and does not sell to individuals. You have to go through your company if you want the new training software. It uses real world simulation and plenty of practice faults, Also includes some genius practice faults. That will definitely test your troubleshooting skills to the max. Safety is a very important part of this course as you will see when going through the exercises.. I highly recommend this real world training software course if you enjoy diagnosing and then repairing the equipment to its fully operational status.

Disconect outgoing motor cables from the main Control panel and check out resistance values of the 3 windings , They may be an open or high resistance reading on one of the motor wires or one of the motor windings may be unbalanced, , this procedure will tell you if its an external problem not an internal Control Panel Problem .

I used this program in college, it sucked to do at the time because on the surface it’s not a very fun application. I learned a lot about circuit failure and in my experience I’ve found a lot more loose or burnt connections that I would have thought.

Faster would have been to tag out the main breaker. Pull the fuses. Check fuses, then check each phase to the others, then test continuity of the problem phase.

You ran the system up to the point where the agitator would not operate because of a open in one leg of the power circuit, you then found the problem in the power circuit, repaired this problem and re-energized the system. Why didnt the agitator immediately start operating once you re-energised the power circuit, as up to that point everything in the mechanical and control circuit would have been satisfied? Just saying!

5:21 you have measured the resistance from the contactor to the terminal block and got 0.2 ohms but the overload was still tripped wchich means that you shouldnt have a path.

Very interesting. But the flaws that I thought were wrong. 1. Before resetting any safety system, it is better to find the cause of the reset and after fixing the problem, proceed to reset the overload. 2. To control a problematic circuit, it is better to start from the load first. Engine resistance. Resistor to contactor. Next, the voltage on the contactor input and then by labeling the motor wires to control the voltage arm on the terminal. 3. After controlling the whole system, after resetting the overload, the motor should be energized.

If you are impressed buy this video you need the correct training as I’ve never seen anything so dangerously stupid. The overload trips so do a live test by pushing in the overload. Look guys and gals airstrip isolate the supply with a permit to carry out your testing, test from the top side of the 1st fuse to 1, 2nd fuse to 3, then 3rd fuse to 5, if ok, test across your contractor 1 to 2 then 3 to 4 then 5 to 6 by pushing the contractor in so you know you don’t have carbonised or worn out contacts, you can do the same test across the overload if you reset it, if all’s good turn your meter from continuity to the low reading ohm setting and remove the motor wires from the overload and test between the wires what was connected between 2-4 then 2-6 then 4-6, all the the test so far can be done with the low reading ohm meter and should be roughly the same even by testing the fuses and contractor the readings should be alike or you have found a dry joint or defective components, if the motor is not balance in readings test inside the motor terminal after removing the brass star/delta strap bars U1-U2, V1-V2,W1-W2, to identify a faulty phase. What if it test ok? Make sure the motor rotates by hand, get a big screwdriver stick the handle against your ear and the other end near the bearing and turn to hear if the bearing is grinding. Replace/repair the faulty part. Now do the live test after obtaining a live working permit. Doing a live test 1st can cause the motor to burn out by overheating it can even rotate on two phases with reduced torque and then burn out. Ammeter readings can be taken on the run test or condition monitoring. To find a fault a dead test takes a few minutes the longest part depends on the mechanical connection, size and position of equipment.
