@bleepblop exactly. I'll air dry things too but I have never understood separating lights and darks. I think once we had some doll clothes that bled onto a doll (so was already a problem) find their way into the wash and it dyed an undershirt slightly but that's about it.

Don’t wash on cold. Most laundry detergent such as tide don’t kill bacteria (Experiment done by style theory). Wash on hot as long as it doesn’t cost more and if that case do what you can afford.

I would do the laundry differently - Use detergent pods instead, much for convenient and breaks downwn easier - Only do cold for delicates; I would recommend warm for most clothing to kill bacteria - You can seperate your clothes into lights and darks, but you don’t have to if you want it done faster - Idk what cycle your doing, but most will take at least an hour to wash (always do normal or heavy-duty if you have a lot of clothes) - I would also recommend adding oxi-clean and even some sort of softener as well if you care that much - And for drying, put at least 2 or 3 sheets in -Lastly, For delicates, always hang dry, as to avoid shrinking

Here’s a short guide to doing the laundry! :D 1. Colors You can split these into lights and darks if you really want to, but the most important thing is making sure the colors don’t get mixed with the whites. Wash on cold with detergent and fabric softener, and throw into dryer for about an hour. If some of these clothes have stains, use a stain-spray that you can buy at your local supermarket and let that soak into the piece of clothing if possible. This is a life saver sometimes. 2. Whites About the same process as colors. Add bleach as you see fit (there’s normally a slot for this somewhere, if not just pour some in), and wash on warm or hot with detergent and fabric softener. Throw in dryer for about an hour. 3. Delicates This includes things like swimsuits, dresses, most pairs of pants, and workout t-shirts. Wash on cold with detergent and NO fabric softener. Rather than throwing it into the dryer, hang these up on a laundry rack or something else to dry. These steps will preserve the longevity of these items. 4. Bedding/towels Welcome to hell :) It ultimately depends on how big your bedding is, but I like to wash my bedding in three loads: sheets, comforter and pillow cases, then my extra blankets. Wash on cold with detergent and fabric softener, and you may use either the dryer or hang it up. In most cases, there’s not enough space to hang it up, but if you fear the dryer may tear your bedding, then hang it up. Towels can be washed just like colors, but often with more detergent and fabric softener.

To the people saying it's sad some people don't know this... I did my laundry since I was a kid too and I don't know how to use the laundry shop washing machines either. Because we always washed them by hand and when we got those cheaper really light load washing machines where you only use it for the soap part of the laundry. We do the rest by hand. In other words people's lives are different, food, chores and whatever it's quite close minded of you people to say those that don't know are all lazy people or their parents are not the best

Hey, quick tip as a "specialist", do NOT use cold water. Use warm or hot. Normally I recommend Hot for whites and warm for darks. Using cold water can cause enzymes in the detergent to not activate properly and overtime ruin the washer and your clothing. Even if the bottle promotes it, don't do it. Also, the numbers depend on the load size. 1 is for small loads. 2 for medium, and 3 for large/full loads.
