I learned that you can use a rejection instead of a hop at the element at 2:15 I feel like it looks cooler, and it gives you no twists in the string when you land your Houdini mount

There's a sweet double GT at the end after the the thumb pulls the string out from under the hop. Just release the NTH index instead of thumb, as well as the TH Thumb. Hop out back of bottom triangle and front of top triangle. Great trick. Thanks.

I typically change my string when it no longer seems to be working as well as I would like it to work. As the string wears in it will start to get thinner and thiner and eventually it just won't play right. That is when I decide to put on a new string.

my Duncan flipside has began to play responsive, even though I use the unresponsive bearing it comes with. Yes, I have also been using lube on it. Any ideas on what is going on?
@yotricks
@yotricks 10 жыл бұрын
It could be a couple of things. If the bearing has gotten dirty it will need to be cleaned to play unresponsive. Also, after lubing the bearing the lube could make the yoyo play responsive for around an hour or so. Putting in new response pads can also make the yoyo temporarily play responsive.

For some players. It depends on the types of tricks they like to do. Some use their strings at a normal length, and many use extra short strings as well. It just depends on their style.

I really do not prefer your teaching style. No offense, but you overly explained things that were very simple in nature, but completely failed to explain at all many of the more intricate and more important parts. Imagine you are doing this for people who have NEVER done this trick. You keep explaining the mounts and positions you end up in, as if we can't plainly see it and as if you hadn't already explained it. But you completely gloss over finer points. "position your hand like a waiter would" is entirely useless when we can plainly see what you are doing, at 2:12. So I like how you go into detail, but that was useless detail. But at 3:16 you said "just toss up the yoyo and undercut the string" With NO direction on how to do that. You don't even MENTION black hops to help people, you do not even notate which hand you are undercutting with. So I think you need to focus on the details, and not just applying random detail to parts that do not need it. This particular video I felt was most disappointing due to how long the video is, and how little content it actually has. you said "and again blah blah blah" about 15 times, when the slow motion video was playing. Which I think is handy, however so much was lost in translation because you could have stopped saying "and again" while including detail in the parts that needed it most. Additionally, from 3:19 to 3:40, absolutely nothing new was added to your almost word for word repetition of the 20 seconds prior. you essentially said exactly the same thing twice in a row, and added no detail, still glossing over which hand and how to undercut. This is all meant as advice, and I hope it does not offend. I am a communications major and public speaker at my college. So I am offering help and aid for those who need it. reiteration typically isn't wise in a video because the video will be rewatched.. So while people are holding their yoyo trying to emulate you, you just keep repeating yourself and their yoyo dies because you wont' get on with the trick. If they need you to repeat yourself, they will back the video up with their mouse. IF you find it necessary to repeat yourself, add details that were previously not mentioned so they feel they are learning. or add necessary details. You did neither.. I hope this helps you guys out! thank you for your videos! I was a backer for the civility, and love your videos! Good job Connor on the video, and I hope this helps!
@yotricks
@yotricks 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated. It is always a challenge trying to keep an appropriate flow, give enough details without over-explaining, and making sure we hit all the elements that might give someone difficulty. As we continue to move forward with videos we will be keeping these things you mentioned in mind. I decided to offer you my thoughts on why the video turned out the way it did to foster further discussion. From our perspective, as far as the repetition is concerned, the biggest request we get on our videos is for more slow-motion, and for me the challenge is how do you include this without silence. In this video we decided to simply repeat ourselves to make room for the shot to be shown multiple times. If the slow motion was not shown in most cases, we would have heard about that as well, so I am sure you can see the balance we are attempting to strike. Of course, whenever we skip explaining an element that may give players trouble, that is never good. On our site and all our playlists this trick comes after Black Hops, so we did assume knowledge, but I agree, it would have been more helpful to mention it. Ironically, again from user feedback, many users get very annoyed when we pass over things too quickly. Early on I would always think what you said, can't people just watch the video again? Over time I discovered that users preferred repetition in the video to hitting replay. However, we may need to rethink this approach for long and complicated tricks, since the videos become so long, and players at this point should be somewhat better at picking up tricks. That is something I will be considering moving forward.
