This tactic only works this way because they kept running their king backwards. When the knight moves next to the bishop if they run forward instead of backwards, you move the king towards them to try to cut them off, they move one forward and you move one forward, then they can escape to the second rank. This is half of it but I think it's important to know that side

I think the pattern when they run towards the mating corner was harder to learn. Also, many people dont bother learning how to do it that way since most players will try to avoid it

I want to have mentioned, that if after Ne5 follows Kd8 trying to escape to the other black corner, you should answer with Ke6, cutting off at d7,d6,d5 and preparing Nd7, which is gonna defend black squares, with possibility to play Bd3 securing the white squares so that the black king is captured at the wanted quarter of the board. Yet pretty useful explanation, thank you very much.

The king was already in the last rank. Show the version where we can push it to the last rank. I like this short very much tho

Just use your king with opposition and lead the enemy king towards squares where your knight or bishop can control and eventually the enemy king will be pushed the the back rank but it still can be difficult as your bishop must be positioned in the correct diagonal

You dont, opponent gets there so it isnt easy for you to win bcs its the wrong corner lichess is very good site for learning you have everything there!

Its a good explanation with good tip, however that only works if they move back towards the bishop. If they try to run out, you have to get a little more complex

I'm still learning how to push the king to the edges to begin with, but at least I know what to do once I'm there a little better 😁
