The naga no kata and 20 years of competition and another 20 to think about it, didn't help me realise this. Nice Matt.

The difference in techniques is vert clearly explained. This is truly a perfect way to show the intangibles/nuances of Judo in a brief clip. Great work.

i think we did this throw _once_ in my bjj gym, and it was so simple and effective that it struck me as inspiringly elegant. i wish i'd had more of a chance to practice it before the pandemic.

nage no kata then? make sure your partner strikes a little deeper when they come in, not a shallow face strike but a deeper head strike. you are putting your shoulder in the opening he creates when he executes a bigger deep strike, your shoulder in his arm pit. meet each other half-way, come in together towards each other at same time.

Thanks for clearing that up! My judoteacher takes uke half way on the hip and throws uke a bit from the back, slightly similar to the o goshi throw. Possibly because that makes it harder for the opponent to escape the throw in judo matches, whereas in my opinion you should be swinging your hip to the side to make uke lose contact with the floor and let uke roll off your leg towards the floor. And that's what I think I see you do, am I correct?

My favorite as well. Remember that it is received from a strike in Nage no Kata. Which is part of how I teach it.
