Do you happen to know the torque setting for the rear caliper bolts?

Should be 19 ft/lbs. I just didn’t have a torque wrench for the smaller sizes.

Yeah the spec is one last ugaduga from the impact or the hand held wrench. It’s a caliper. Not a fucking lifter on a header. Just make sure it’s tight but not over tighten you noob

Correct way to do this service. Same on Model S and been doing that on our S cars since 2013. ( did this on all our ICE cars back in the good old days but brake pads had to be changed every second year ).

It’s incredible the amount of people that don’t believe me when I tell them Tesla recommends servicing the brakes every 12 months. Thank for proving them wrong. Although they might say no one follows recommendations anyway. Hilarious. I’m guessing they’re confusing replacing with servicing. Great video by the way.

The only additional thing they do is check the brake fluid. The total cost with labour of the tesla brake maintenance is around 280-320

Great video. Thank you. I know essentially nothing about car repair, but I do have one question... Isn't there some sort of paste that is supposed to be applied to the backside of the brake shoes to prevent squealing? It looked like the pads you removed had dried stuff on the backside, which if true could have been the paste I mentioned. Not sure if my memory is correct, hence the question. All the best.

You can add a bit of lubrication on the back side where the pistons touch the pad. But it’s not necessary according to Tesla service.

I have a TESLA model Y. Want to know on average, how long do the brakes last before need a change ? Do front brakes wear faster than the rear? Usual in conventional car, front brake wear out faster due to increased weight of engine. when should you bleed brake of the TESLA? Reply

I’d imagine you’d probably never have to change the brakes. I’ve seen pads last as long as 350,000 km.

You may want to do it first by Tesla and do it yourself going forward. It’s a lot easier to maintain as a DIYer when they’re already cleaned and maintained.

New brakes always get treated with lube there, since it's a moving part. EVs need this because the brake pads and rotors last so long since they get less use than ICE vehicles. So, this is to keep the brakes working well for a lot longer. Many EV brake pads can last 10+ years.

It still has a traditional braking system. It’s just not used very much
@powersurge6878

Regenerative braking happens in the motor and it's not actually through the braking system. That's why brakes don't get used that much.
