Check out how we easily built new shelves for our RV pantry cabinets. With this addition we doubled our storage space in a pantry that wasn't originally a good use of space.

Brilliant idea! I was just thinking of how to add shelves without drilling into the sides, for similar reasons. Thanks!

I still can't get over the fact all three of you are living full time in that little trailer. I have a 40ft Pinnacle just for myself. My search for the right floorplan was extensive. I need to have the full front closet. Even then I have to rotate clothes for the seasons. Luckily I found the perfect unit with a front bath. This bathroom is large enough to have a cabinet dedicated to the washer and dryer. Thus leaving the entire front closet for clothes and a quarter of my shoes. I really do admire what you're doing. Your daughter is getting quite the experience, adventure, and hands on education. Cheers from Seattle! How on earth do the three of you manage with so little storage? Granted you're further south so you can get away with tees, shorts, and flip flops most of the year.

So cleaver! You could drill pilot holes in both the shelf and the supports before installation to make screwing them together in such a tight space a little easier.

instead of the screws you could use double back tape on the two support boards. The top one seems fairly snug and would stay in place.

Double backed tape is your friend. My problem is you can't see anything past the front of the cabinet. I think using tubs that can easily be pulled out is a better solution with the shelves added.
@Totally-trailer
@Totally-trailer 8 жыл бұрын
Great idea! We ended up putting some small (clear) tubs in the back of the pantry to hold extra items and baking supplies (things we don't need necessarily on a regular basis). The shelving spacing has helped with being able to see what's back behind the front row, but sometimes it is a guessing game when you reach way in the back and have to "feel" for what you are looking for!

Instead of screws put a couple of dabs silicone on the backs of the (shelf) supports & shelves, that way they are easily removed.

Your right when you said that RV's are terrible at utilizing the available space, that's why it's up to the buyer to figure out what they need to do to make it right. I just tore out the single plastic battery box in my RV to fit another 12V right next to it. Why wouldn't they just leave the space available for customers that want to use 2 batteries?
@NannaNeely

You could have screwed and "L" bracket into the anchor boards then placed it in the cabinet, put the shelf on top and placed a screw on the shelf board into the anchor board. I noticed that the anchor board on your left (my right) isn't sitting flush to wall, so movement from pulling your camper may cause it to shift and your items would fall...

Personally I wouldn’t out screws into the board. It seems unnecessary and would cause issues if you decide to change things around later.

It's better to put drawers that can pull out. It's too hard to reach stuff in the back.
@magnoliasouth
@magnoliasouth 5 жыл бұрын
That's a good point but the problem with that is the wasted space for the slides and such. It is hard to reach back there but for me, space is more important. Especially when you're living in the RV.

TENSION RODS (from Walmart, etc.) could have been used to hold up the extra shelves, instead of having to cut "support boards" to do the same job. No screws, no saws, and no drills required. Plastic bin containers (that come in all sorts of shapes) could sit on top of the tension rods to hold items. The tension rods could be adjusted to any height, at any time - as needs change. Us women tend to think of ways to simplify things! (Big Wink and Smile).
@chicagohandyman

True, but some RV cabinet walls are nothing but 1/8 plywood. Tension rods may not always work.

I like the board idea better, no offense.
@magnoliasouth
@magnoliasouth 5 жыл бұрын
Not really. They're not very sturdy and finding all those containers to make the right fit is kind of a time waster. It would actually be cheaper in the long run to go the wood way. However, for those who are afraid of minor woodworking jobs, then yours is an excellent idea. In my early years that's exactly what I would have done.
@lass-inangeles7564
@lass-inangeles7564 5 жыл бұрын
Tension rods are unstable, unreliable, and ugly. Theoretically, this is another solution, but you have to buy them which costs more than scrap wood planks, then mickey mouse in a solution. This is better.
