How to Draw a Dreaming Whale in Watercolor

In this lesson, we’re going to draw ‘the defender of the ocean’, a humpback whale, which helps the weak with it’s huge feature.
Humpback whales have round body with long pectoral fins, and it’s good to keep in mind to draw the grainy bumps on the skin for texture. Rather than drawing every bumps precisely, we’ll be using water splatter technique, which will be more of an abstract artwork, to bring out these textures of the humpback whale.

Brushes: DAVINCI PETIT GRIS MIX 8, BABARA 20R 4
Paper: CANSON Moulin du Roy 300g 100% coton
Paint: HWC(HOLBEIN ARTISTS’ WATERCOLORS)

This is a very beautiful painting! I would have liked more of a play-by-play on the actual techniques and process if this were truly to be a "How To" and not just a speed painting, but it is very lovely to watch.

Those blue colors was so intense :O why a lot of artists i watch in YT use holbein? It Just makes me want to buy the set even more despite my horrible painting skill Dx

I can never quite reach the look that the first brush strokes give. Could it be the paper difference (because my technique is the same as yours). What kind of paper are you using? I use Cold Press 300 grams of paper. I hope you answer

The brands I used is Holbein Artist's Watercolors and Shinhan Professional Watercolors. I think you can find them online shop like Amazon :)

I think BABARA is a Japanese brand but I bought it in Korea. Sadly I couldn't find any links for the BARARA 20R 4 brush in other countries' websites although I googled several countries' Amazon. I've only found Korean links. (If you need, I'll send you) But it is not a really special brush at all. you can buy any small synthetic brush for detail or lining. I'm sorry and I Hope this helps~

@@SAGAKSAGAK Thank you for your help. I purchased two new brushes! A fine detail brush for details by Escoda and a quill brush by Princeton. Have not used yet but I can't wait to try them out.
