Holy... How can one person have so much talent... I've only been drawing for like a couple of years and they look like trash compared to this. My sketchbook is right in front of me and I'm scared to even try this because I know it won't come out as good

U are an AMAZING artist. I was just wondering how to maker her mouth look like she is smiling. It is kind of hard to make her look like she's smiling even if I try my best. Thank you!

Ella K The very corners of the mouth, like the last millimeter on either side, is the most important part that makes it look like a smile, it needs to be sloped upwards.

I really admire Mark Crilley I find that unlike other manga artists he really goes into depth/trouble into helping and teaching others like us and myself who are at the beginning of drawing and I feel he is one of my inspirations :) I've been drawing for about 3 years now and I hope I continue to learn and improve and with the help of Mark Crilley!! :D thanks

Hi Mark. I've been looking through your videos, but there's a ton, so I thought I would ask instead. Do you have a video on how to take a real person and (draw) turn that person into manga. ... Kind of a reverse vision of this video. I hope you know what I'm asking for. I would like to draw my friend as a manga/cartoon character, and you're so good at explaining what you're doing and what to look after and be careful about, so if you don't have a video like that, I really hope that you'll consider to make one. Thank you. Sara.

I've been watching your videos for years now, and I'm appreciative of every single one of them, and I feel like I've learnt a lot when it comes to facial features, hair and shading. I've been learning to draw (especially manga style) since I was 12, and I'm coming up to being 17 and in college where I'm taking an Art and Design course. I'm taking a bit of a detour with more realistic drawings, and I think the key to realism is the shading and knowing about light. Thanks for everything Mark :)

i dont find the videos boring at all. I think for those who do, then can just froward this video. For those who are serious about realistic drawing, they will watch it and yea you can talk your head off...cos that is how we learn...and that is the aaaah moment for me. I am an artist and always struggle with getting the proportions and shading just right....so these videos are very helpful for me...i actually started back drawing..i have not done that in many years. And thank you for your time.

it so wonderful to see you bring another amazing face to life, thank you so much for spending as much time as you could showing me this vitally important part of drawing, reading books does not match watching someone do the technique for real and as always im blown away by your expertise and skill. I was taught shading but with lots of pencils, working from light to dark, hard to soft lead, seeing you work with just one is fascinating and inspirational.

Just wanted to say a special thank you. Like every other artist wanna-be I began at a young age with paper and pencil and was a fair artist by about 16 yrs, however over the years the need to earn a living meant that I still wanted very much to do good art but completely lost my "touch" after nearly half century of work as a psychologist without time to practice, but watching you is helping me re-learn all the fine points I'd forgotten when even the high end (and very expensive) software didn't preform like I wanted. So a big thank you for re-introducing me to old friends (paper and pencil) and helping me regain confidence lost after years of working in a media that never preformed as I intended. Sincerely, Gene

NO! NO! I BEG YOU!! IT'S NOT BORING!! I have taken up art over the past 2 1/2 yrs. and I have come to believe that shading is almost the most important realm of becoming a good artist...it is not having any "outlines", only separations of light and dark. But, to accomplish this, we must be able to master shading. So, please....BORE US SOME MORE!! Let those who don't want to watch as you teach this, watch one of your tie lapsed. Thanks SO MUCH, for this gift, of REAL TIME!! KT

you should make a video explaining how certain object are shaded, for example, you could start of with a sphere, then work on a multi-sided object, and objects with pieces protruding or indentations and slightly curved surfaces and clear, transparent objects and explain how the object is shaded, and the shadow it casts.. just simple shapes so that time lapse wouldn't be needed. Love your work Mark, you've helped me so much!
