This is a quick tutorial on how to draw a simple water droplet in Adobe illustrator. This water droplet is made very simple so even a beginner can follow along. You could combine this tutorial with my "how to draw a simple cloud" tutorial to make a very simple flat design rain cloud.
If you need help just ask in the comments below, i will answer quick as i'm on KZfaq daily :)

So I get to the point where I use the shape tool. I delete the extras, but I cannot combine the shapes.

Im sorry i havn't seen your comment, based on the amount of likes this comment has it seems other people have the same issue. Can you please descibe what happens when you try. Most likely the issue is that the lines dont touch the side of the circle, you have to make sure the circle snaps to the exact middle of the square i place it in, and also make sure "snap to grid" is on, this way the lines will for sure touch the circle and you will be able to combine the shapes. The shapes has to be closed before they can be combined. Also you need to have everything selected, both the circle and the two lines before using the shapebuilder :) If someone else is having this problem too, please leave a comment and describe your issue and i will respond quickly :)

A much faster way is to use the line segment tool with a very bold stroke, rounded cap and a triangular variable width profile (width profile 4)

The first water drop looks so wrong for some reason. Thank you for the simple and effective tutorial! Very nice use of grid. I just create an ellipse and drag the anchor from above the ellipse, then straighten the handles.

Yeah, really neat video @DiaGraphics, and I agree with @Cold Queen. I also just create an ellipse and drag the anchors and straightens the handles. But this works too!

Thank You very much for the compliments ☺️ and yeah there Are many ways to do it and the difference is very subtle, but there IS a difference in the appearance. I believe that illustrator cc has an even easier way of doing this but im using cs6 My self ☺️

Thanks for this tutorial. But after the drop is created and you wanna scale it x or y the drop scales wrong since the selection box of it still is 22,5 degrees. How do i fix this?
@DiaGraphics
@DiaGraphics 7 жыл бұрын
+Montahue thanks for watching the video and for asking the great question. Im not entirely sure that i understand the question without first trying to replicate the problem My self. but if You want to scale it, hold down shift while doing it, this should result in proper scaling. Please let me know if this helps :)

you can reset bounding box by going to tab: ( Object> transform> reset bounding box ) and the angle would go back to 0 again

a faster way to do it is to make a circle than you select the top anchor point and you click and make it a into an angol point. After you select the other 3 anchor points and drag then down, it will make a perfect drop and you decide how tall you want it. :)
@DiaGraphics
@DiaGraphics 7 жыл бұрын
If i understand Your comment right that technique Will make inaccurate edges. Unless You Are referring to the New CC feature, illustrator cc has some features that makes this process easier :)
@lucaraimondo5967
@lucaraimondo5967 7 жыл бұрын
sorry for the bad explanation. yes I have a recent version of illustrator,so I don't know if I have more option. the one I'm referring to appears o the top left corner when you select a anchor point, basically gives you the option to have straight corner or to have the handles and chose how smooth you want it. :)
@DiaGraphics
@DiaGraphics 7 жыл бұрын
+Luca Raimondo yes thats the CC feature from the New versions. Its a great New feature and You Are right, if You have CC thats a much faster technique :)
@stiepard
@stiepard 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly, but You can also select top point only and drag it up, then with CTRL+Alt remove handles and You have a perfect drop shape
@DiaGraphics
@DiaGraphics 6 жыл бұрын
+Yarecki if You just make a circle and drag the top point up and removes the handles You vil not get a perfect drop. You Will get sharp edges :)
