4 жыл бұрын

This is my first tutorial and it is about how to draw the initial outlines perfectly from a reference picture. Drawing the reference image accurately is important for realistic drawings. I have covered 3 methods to draw the outlines. The first two are more like tracing techniques where as the third one is an actual drawing technique. You will get a good idea on how to use grids and proportional dividers if you follow the step by step demo.
Tools I use:
1. Graphite Pencil: Faber Castell Black Matt 3B
2. Mechanical Pencil: Uni Kuru Toga 0.5
3. Drawing Board: Brustro A3 size table top drawing board
4. Ruler: Classmate 30cm Ruler
5. Sets Square: Omega 1522/SP India
6. Proportional Divider: Generic Brass Proportional Divider size 9 inch
7. Tapes: Silicon non sticky tape
Mobile Softwares:
1. Da Vinci Eye(iOS): apps.apple.com/us/app/da-vinc...
2. Da Vinci Eye(Android): play.google.com/store/apps/de...
3. Tayasui Sketches: apps.apple.com/us/app/tayasui...
4. Camera Lucida(Android): apps.apple.com/us/app/camera-...

Abhishek Chhaperia It is an AR based app....So it projects the reference image on your paper. You just need to fix the mobile in such a way that the camera covers the drawing sheet. Difficult to explain. I suggest you use it once. You will get a better idea. To trace the image you need to look at the mobile screen and draw over the photo which is projected on the paper. Hope you understand 🙂

Who is judging whether it is your own art or not? Do whatever you want to make your art better. Let the audience decide whether it is worth or not. Tracing does not make your art any better if you lack other much more important skills like color values, tonal mapping or sense of shadow/light. These are the skills that make even an untraced drawing look good and without them even the perfectly traced drawings will look miserably bad. All the famous artist I know who practice Photo-realistic drawings/paintings trace the outlines. ALL of them. They call it their own work and earn thousands of dollars. So I guess you can do that too. There is much more to art that attracts the audience than the process you follow.

There is a difference between drawing artistic portraits that are realistic vs hyper-realistic portraits which look like photograph. This tutorial is for the second category. Whether to pursue art in PhotoRealism or not is a separate topic altogether. Continue doing whatever makes you happy. No point in judging the process of other artist if their customers are happy. Some people don’t consider photorealism as art and rather think of it as the dumbest/easiest form of drawing. I am one of them too 😂. All the best in your artistic journey 👍

Thanks a lot! But isn't it cheating?
@deviprasadchand
@deviprasadchand 3 жыл бұрын
Nope....not even 1%. Tricks must be leveraged to get the desired output. That has been the whole point in the evolution of craftsmanship. Anything that helps achieve better accuracy, better looking arts and reduces the time taken by the artist is always welcome. If your audience cares about the process more than the final result, then it is a different case. For photorealism, all they care is the final outcome. Photorealistic art(I often term them as dumb art) by nature has always been questioned against photography. These tricks will not help to deliver artworks with a creative/abstract touch anyways. This is my Opinion. Proportions contribute towards the appeal of the work only upto a negligible extent. We never judge the elegance of a furniture by considering whether the wood was framed by hand or by machine, do we. Ha ha. Stupid analogy. Enjoy whatever suits your art style. What I don’t like is 99% of photorealistic artists including the very best use tracing, but they are never vocal about it. Thanks for bringing this point to discussion. Have a good day 🙂

Absolutely....this video is no way a guidance to how to improve drawing skills. This is rather to explain tricks to get the outline done quickly for "Photo-realistic" drawing where the aim is to make the drawing look like a digital photograph. There is no alternative to freehand drawing in creative/abstract art. I am planning to make video to improve freehand drawing soon. Thank you for watching my video :)

This is actually not a drawing tutorial. Drawing from life is a separate topic altogether. These are tricks to draw outlines for “Photorealistic drawing”. If you don’t need photorealism and can go slightly off with proportions then go for proper drawing. But no matter how good you are with drawing, you can never achieve spot on accuracy with freehand or grids. I personally can draw almost accurately. “Almost”. But that is not sufficient for Portrait photorealism. And spot on accuracy matters to the clients more than which process you follow. And I am not a huge fan of copy cat photorealism anyways. I do that as it is the easiest form of art. But I strongly argue with the word “cheating”. There is no such things in creative field unless it is copyright infringement. People who draw freehand genuinely, are not Photorealistic artists. Their art are often more appealing, creative and abstract sometimes. I actually do like them even more. I will not name the very best artists who do Photorealistic drawings with colored pencils or pastels. You know what? They all trace the outlines with lucida 😀 Glad that you watched my video. Thank you 🙏

Yes they do....there are ways to know whether the drawings are freehand or traced even if you see them drawing outlines in the video 🙂. They are not vocal about it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7Bhd7x6srmnnKM.html This is a drawing I did with freehand. Looks accurate at the end result but it is not quite accurate.

And see my Charlie Puth drawing, it looks like I am drawing the outlines freehand, but it is being traced actually.
