I liked the book layout, however, I see that if a book contains 400 pages and if someone follow the above layout, it might take additional 50 to 100 pages as page height is too less from bottom? Any broken rule layout to cover that ? Thanks

i heard you can do divide by 9 or something like that and make this grid i dont know how. can you help me for illustrator or photoshop about this methoud (by 9)?

I feel that any book that uses this grid system simply looks, and feels, old, medieval even. To make things worse, the inner margins are just too narrow, which may make text fall into the gutter.

This is very helpful for a beginning student. However, the typesetting examples that you show are quite poorly executed. For instance, much of the justified type has gaping word spaces which cause rivers. Something that we are taught never to have when typesetting. Some of the runarounds i.e. Jason Bourne are again poorly typeset, rivers etc. The example also shows on the left hand page a column of justified type, followed by a paragraph that is flush left. If you are doing to teach students about book design, I would suggest that the actual content be more carefully presented. Confession, I am a graphic designer and professor.
