Hi Wei, I am new to art. I have started practicing these exercises yesterday. I have no natural ability to draw, that is why I never really got into it. I am amazed at my progress in drawing simple shapes, in such a short time. I wish that I had known about these exercises sooner. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and hard work with us. Do you have anymore KZfaq chanels?

Brilliant Wei, every tutorial video is great, helped me a lot of understanding hands, eyes and mouths. Much more than I'm taught in college. You should become an art teacher. The way you describe and demonstrate is brilliant. Easy to follow. Excellent, keep up the good work.
@ArtofWeiHo9 жыл бұрын
+Dean Noble =). Haha, yeah, well, it depends on which college. Unless it's a dedicated art school, there isn't much good art courses in college. I went to a State college and really didn't learn much other than giving me the time to draw. The key is practice, the more you do it, the better you get.

I don't really ever do youtube comments but I'm glad you mentioned this. I always felt really disadvantaged for not taking any art classes in college. I guess getting good at anything is all about prolonged exposure.

Hello, Wei. Thanks for nice tutorial :-) I have a question. When you draw, what about the angle of paper? Some people just put on the desk, and draw. While other people put paper on the easel, so they tilt the paper like 80 degree. Which one do you recommend for beginner? Why they tilt the paper at all?

hello! i love this one and "how to draw better lines". i have mentally put them together as my homework. you see, every day i make myself put pencil to paper. i am new at art and i figure i should work at it every day. i also realize though that i need to give myself "homework" where after each session i do specific things to generally improve my hand coordination. between this and the "how to draw better lines" i have some pretty great homework. i encourage you to create more of these sort of homework lessons and create a playlist for them. i am currently following a lot of artists and none of them have any sort of homework type videos. so i really appreciate these two you have. note that these are different from the "how to be a better artist" type work because these aren't tips and tricks. these are "do this 1000 times to be better" kind of stuff, imho.

Hey Wei, great advice! I'm curious about one thing though: how would one go about drawing a very long curve as a final line? For example, a long strand of hair, or the outline of a body. I'm getting a lot better at drawing accurate curves for the sketch, but once I get to drawing in the actual linework I tend to make mistakes left and right
@ArtofWeiHo2 жыл бұрын
You'll need to draw the long curve as a series of connecting smaller curves. We're not robots so we can't draw that. But more importantly, I think, is to FORGET about the perfect curve. Sketchy lines are just great, and you'll learn more about drawing with that then the clean lines.

I think just a regular #2 pencil would work just as well as whatever he is using. :P 👍
@ArtofWeiHo9 жыл бұрын
+markkens9 Yeah, go with a thicker or just regular lead. Those mechanical pencils with thin leads is good for extremely detailing and not good for sketching. You want a lead that offers you a wider variety of strokes.

+Like-a-Chala =). #2 works great too, but just not dark enough for that range of values you might want in a drawing.

your video helped me a lot but even after a lot of practice i keep struggling with small circles and small shapes in general. i got a lot of muscle memory and my bigger circles are pretty impressive for my standards by now but as soon as i try to draw smaller im not sure how to do it the right way i drew like a hundred sheets full of small circles but i cant get the wobble under control at least not consistently... i tried using only my fingers and wrist like with handwriting because it seemed like the right approach to me after noticing that my shoulder and elbow are not suited for the task (or are they and i just have to keep trying? xD) but it didnt work out
