Even though this is really helpful, do you have tips on how to see the different shapes within the body? I have trouble with that and my proportions tend to be off

Dude try looking a the pose and trace it and divide parts of the pose with simpler shapes that seem easier to you

If you find a reference, just trace over it and block it out in squares in circles.

Knowing the skeleton really helps with how the skin and muscle move. I recommend Burne Hogarth's books.

I’d recommend looking at the book how to draw comics the marvel way if you haven’t, it’s really cheap and helped me out quite a bit.

i think the thing that folks here in the comments don't really understand is that this video was responding to a comment of someone asking if they had any tips on drawing figures. really, it would already be assumed that you know how to block-in shapes, add detail, shade, etc. the main substance is the process from using a reference, and conveying a pose.
