The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. +Grace Moore I remember back when Nickelodeon would put a clip after every other episode of a cartoon you watched and they would have one of the animators draw the star character(s) of the show. The Danny Phantom guy is an oddball, but it's cool how artists explain how and why they make certain quirks on everything they draw.

To the people wishing they could draw like this, the only way to achieve it is by drawing. There's no other way. Non-stop practice, with each new drawing being better than the one before. No one makes good drawings in their first try.

Nothing beats hand-drawn style and animation. I never understood why 3D took over when they are completely different and independent styles. 2D definitely suites cartoons better. 3D is for when you want something to appear normal and boring, like anything else you see in real life. Perhaps an odd hand-animated film now and then would be possible for Disney as an offering to the arts, Walt's profession, and all the fans around the globe. Imagine how terrible Disney's 2D films would be in 3D.. what would be lost in that transition is what is lost now in every Disney film.

Dang, I really wish I could draw like him. I'm not really interested in being a film maker, but as a writer that mostly bases my books around cartoony worlds and designs, this would come in handy when I feel like making an illustration of each character.

+Joey Ryder Just drawing isn't enough, you have to know what you're drawing and why, the story, ect. Read books written by animators and learn more and more and you'll get a greater understanding which will improve your drawings! I'm at University studying animation and this year has been amazing, I've learnt so much!

Usually when I try to draw Judy, I end up messing up the whole thing, but this was actually really easy to follow and my end result looked a lot like Judy, all be it with a few mistakes. I honestly would have never thought of the whole "gumball" thing, or the comment about using the nose to anchor where the eyes were. Needless to say, this is a great video.

Gosh, thank you so, so much! I was having so much trouble with her but your advice of 'gumdrop' shaped head and 'almond' shaped eyes somehow made it click. I'll experiment to make the style my own but that advice was fantastic. The Judy I draw is now many, many times better!

Zootopia was a brilliant film, and it's inspired me to get into art (Well, actually Gravity Falls started me on drawing, but Zootopia filled me with enough wonder and determination to make me want to get into animating, drawing and writing as maybe just a bit more than a hobby.).

I'm so jealous of these disney animators because although I don't really plan on becoming an animator when I grow up, the idea of drawing all kinds of different things has always fascinated me but it's too bad because no matter how hard I've tried, my drawing skills have unfortunately sucked my entire life :(

Rowan&Phoenix thanks for the encouragement. I actually have been practicing lately to improve my drawing skills and I basically try to draw every chance I get. If I just keep practicing frequently like you said, my drawing will eventually be really good :)

Samuel Black You're welcome :) And yes they will! Here's something that helped me very much when I first started: even if you want to achieve a certain style, just start by studying things from real life, it makes your world/characters/style believable, and of course hones your skills. Again, trust me, it'll all be worth it the first time your character smiles back at you from the paper! Good luck and happy drawing! :D

see now THIS is talent and the type of career i would be interested in when I'm the right age. I'm always sketching up characters and creating little background stories with them. hope to someday be either a character designer or story developer for you guys. keep up the great work. i have always been inspired by you guys. also, cant wait to watch zootopia. the animation and character design looks outstanding. :)

+Shelby ladrach Get drawing NOW then, never say when I'm the right age you can be learning and working towards this goal now!! Draw everyday and keep drawing draw many characters and stories and ideas, comics, draw people, draw stones, draw your room at different times of the day. Learn how to draw value and never stop, always carry a sketch book with you and keep doing what you do!

This tutorial... taught me so much. I've been drawing my whole life and I didn't know you could draw a mouth in more than one stroke. XD I also didn't realize you could make guidelines for your eyebrows and eyes. I am thrilled and am drawing right now too. ^.^ Also, I love 2D animation a lot as well.
