I love these pens. Don Colley's videos are highly recommended. A master with the Pitt Artist Pens. Combine these pens with the FC Albrecht Dürer Watercolor Markers. The color numbers are identical at Faber Castell. Likewise the watercolor pencils from Faber Castell

I bought these about 20 years ago. I don't use them often. Maybe once every couple of years. They are still going strong. Store them properly and they'll last decades

Love the cows. FC makes big tip Pitt markers (handy for posters). Pitt pens were pretty much for Illustrators, drawing, and for filling in small details. There is now a set of Soft Brush greys. I like your alternate uses and thanks for mentioning the tip switch.

So happy for this video from you! I am racking up quite a collection of the pitt pens. I am watching lots of videos on how to use them alone or mixed media. One artist said the paperskes a huge difference. Yupo paper would be so fun with these. Or paper treated with gel medium to prevent the ink from penetrating the paper fibers.

The new Pitt Dual Markers have a really large brush on one side and a fineliner on the other which are nice for larger pieces. All Pitt markers really need to be stored horizontally, if you want them to last (don't want the pigment to settle on one side!). The box covers you showed in the video are the old box illustrations, the new ones by Donald Colley are brilliant. He really has a way with these markers. He'll put the ink on his fingers and stamp it onto the paper to add texture as well as transitions between colors. My favorite use for my Pitt pens is quick urban/plein air sketches. Loved getting to watch you explore these markers. Check out Scarlet. I know it looks more orange in some images but it has that punchier, orange leaning red that I think you're missing.

I bought some Pitt Artists Pens many years ago, but they're Indian ink style and waterproof. I used them for outlining and they were bought in two sizes, some thin ones like you used and some fatter ones. I have the warm and cold greys in both sizes and a small 6 set of coloured, but I just use them now for touching up paintings. You can't dilute them with water unless you're very quick.

The only Faber-castell artist Pitt pens I own are in the gray shade. After watching your review and seeing how you used them in various ways, I can't see myself investing in the color sets. Cheers😊

I commented on the Winsor-Newton video that I purchased a basic set of Faber Castell Pitt Pens ... the "landscape" pack. I have since added a black/gray set and 2 "brown" pens. I originally though that I might use these "out and about". Currently, I use them in my illustrated journal: small doodle kind of drawings with ink and color. The do not bleed through my journal paper and allow me to make quick sketches and add color. The lack of a deep red is odd ... maybe that will be added. I will say that I also have watercolor pencils ... also Faber Castell and I like using them with a water brush. I think I will go more that way vs buying more pens. I am saving this video as I do like the mixed media result also. Thanks, Toby!

Excellent demonstration. Thank you so much. When you talk about punchy colors, this could be totally misleading for multimedia artists, I guess, this is only relevant when compared to other water-based media. Oil based media (oil paint, oil pastels, color pencils) are hell lot punchier, even acrylic or acryla-gouache. So, I just warn anyone buying into this brutally expensive art material, she/he might not be blown by the color intensity. Just for comparison: you can buy a Sennelier oil pastel stick half the price as a Faber-Castell PITT double-ended marker, and that Sennelier color, that will be brutally punchy. I have a number of boxes of Faber-Castell PITT markers, they are fantastic for certain type of artwork, but they are not for color punch 😁

Great video Toby. Can you explain or compare one day the difference between the Pitt Artistic Dual Markers, the A. Durer Watercolour Markers and the W. N. Watercolour promarkers? which do you prefer?

They aren't really made for 'mixing'. A yellow touching a blue shouldn't turn green. At least mine better not. That could bring big problems for designers, illustrators, and logo makers. I love using them with WC, if I decide to throw some lavender (flowers) in front of a yellow wall, the lavender stays lavender. 👍 Now those SB Pitts, they tend to mix a bit. Nice demonstration on the various uses.

My only problem with things like these is the plastic waste. I stopped buying fine liner pens for the same reason, they usually end up in the bin before really being fully exhausted with either partially drying up or the tip failing. But they look great for people who like this type of media.

Good point! Very good point! It's difficult isn't it to balance convenience, environment etc. I do like these pens, but I also use fountain pens at great expense largely to avoid using throw away fine liners! Ahhh the hipocrisy of me :S

Good point! In my situation, I am using them a bit sparingly in doodle-illustrated journal small ink and color things. Hopefully that makes them last a very long time.

Recycling helps. Fabre Castell Aquas are 100% recycled plastic. People / Companies recycle these days.

@@ladyhollman9534 indeed they do but most people will drop these in the bin. Many local authority recycling centres do not disassemble items on the processing belts from household waste nor do they recycle multi material items. So these pens, being multi material, will get rejected and end up in landfill. For them to be responsibly recycled, it would be down to the manufacturer to set up an easy and free return system so they could instigate proper separation of the components for recycling.

@@Graham_Thompson @tobysketchloose I concur with your sentiment here and as Toby mentioned, it's kind of a fine balance. I am finding myself building a small collection of the Copic multiliners, they now have an aluminum body and are refillable... I don't have a large collection of them and only started it 6 months back, so not sure how well it works, but it is one of the better options I have seen to have a fine liner that sticks around.
