There are times when you can force 3714 and or 3712 INactive. This is assuming no other faults that drive those faults are currently active. Check out a tip that can stop active derates that should not be active.

To calibrate the ECM with the Commons insight. Do you have to do something special? Or is it just a regular calibration procedure

It depends on a number of factors. But if you are just updating the calibration revision it is very straight forward.

@@ENGINESHOPJOE I've been told by some that if it's a really hard errate, you can do that calibration, but you would have to be offline, is this true?

@@micaelandrade8514 On or offline has nothing to do with it at all short of you need to be online to save the calibration if you did not download it earlier. As long as your insite license has basic and pro active you can use insite offline. These days insite sends everything back to cummins as soon as it gets online. At this point in time i think they do that so they know how many engines that have emission update campaigns open actually get the update. They need that info for the EPA. They don't spy on you or do something to the ecm over the wifi. If you buy a new cummins engine in a new truck the oem turns on a feature called greenhouse gas. That basically means you can't change the calibration to modify HP or Torque with out consent of the OEM as they are held accountable by the EPA for the engines emission levels. You can still update it or reload what is in it already but you cannot change it.

As to the calibration update fixing the derate it will reset the faults but if you have an active issue that is driving that fault it is going to come right back. We have recalibrated engines because we had 3714 and 3712 active and needed the engine to run for another hour ( crane doing a heavy lift end of day). The DEF header failed and the operator kept using the machine until it would only idle. The recalibration got him through the lift and we put the crane down until we replaced the failed OEM def header.

I am having an issues with 3712 and 3714, had a previous active code for NoX , replaced that and clear that code with insite, fought woth the 3712 &3714..i tried the one way to clear by resetting the Nox (i have had that work in the past) i will sure give this a try tomorrow, finger crossed

On that particular engine it did not work. However I have done this on several other cummins and absolutely worked great. What I do if I get codes 6254, 6255, 3712 or 3714... first I confirm that the repair is indeed repaired. And if I get either of those codes stuck.. i use my Cummins Insight or Jpro and I make sure they are active then I turn key OFF then I unplug the boost, exhaust back pressure or Egr sensor ( whatever is easier) then with that sensor unplugged I turn the key to on (engine NOT running) wait for that sensor to set an active code then most of the time the derate code will set to inactive or if it don't go to inactive I crank engine and let run for 5 minutes then turn key to OFF then plug the (previous unplugged sensor) back in then re-scan and restart engine and let run for 5 minutes then all codes go to " inactive " clear all codes and last I clear/reset ALL def,dpf,scr monitor key off then key on then run a regen for 20 plus minutes and all is good ( at least it's been good for me) this has been a great video and channel so please sub.. he knows what he is talking about

I can testify that this works on my CM 2350. I used the exhaust back pressure sensor. Thanks for sharing your skills and expertise.

I have this same problem on my 2016 international 4300 boxtruck it’s in derate mode and showing me the same code

The easiest way to figure out why those are active is to have a scanner or Insite hooked up to the engine. Those codes are secondary codes. Most of the time a Primary code is the problem that causes them to go active. They are part of the system that tries to protect the engine or aftertreatment which is having some other problem.
