have been a 4wd instructor for over ten years and agree with this video 100 percent. My van is a Jayco 19ft outback tandem and have done similar and did it in that manor. Not by choice but by necessity . A great video.

Around 17:50 you could use HDC to slow if necessary at that will modulate the brakes on individual wheels for you. You need a caravan with an electric motor to drive the wheels to reduce the drag on the car. It could contain a small battery such as a hybrid vehicle size one to power the motor and the motor could also be used as a brake to retard the caravan and recharge the battery. I’m surprised no one has done this yet.

Another good video Robert - You touched on cross axle diff locks, a good point that many people associate with traction for going up hills - I find when towing a rear diff lock is even more important when descending steep tracks because it improves engine braking and stops the tow vehicle being pushed along when one rear wheel lifts and loses traction. Of course same applies to front diff lock, but as we know steerage is critical when towing so a front locker needs to be used with caution...

No light commercial vehicle was ever designed or manufactured to tow heavy trailers off-road - regardless of any aftermarket upgrade.

Great video, my trailer is not that heavy but has low clearance so I suffer from all those tight spots. Electric brakes help a lot downhill.....doing it with inertia brake like I do it's extremely sensitive and nerve-racking.

Great tips for the safe drive and info. But smaller trailer or campers caravan would be so difficult a family for accommodation! So perhaps would be better to choose easier ways.

Great video. Lots of good information here especially the bit about the tongue weight of the trailer causing the back end of the vehicle to slide out from the intended direction of travel. Good operators are smooth operators. Couple things I will add: bring plenty of quality wheel chalks, look for backup camera to monitor the trailer tongue and also they make some that mount to the back of the trailer. Try to purchase a trailer jack that has a good wheel on it instead of a flat bottom. And make sure the wheel can swivel. Eventually there will come a time when you will need to unhook from the vehicle and reattach at a better angle. But sometimes you will actually need a tirfor winch to drag the tongue over to the vehicle but it’s very hard to do this if the trailer jack is digging into the dirt with the flat bottom style every time you drag it. Just my 2 cents. Also, a tall radio antenna is perfect for checking clearance on the trailer. If a low hanging obstacle hits your antenna it will certainly hit your trailer.
