I always have a lot of fun making drum & bass and adjacent genres. Something about chopping up breakbeats in different ways is just super enjoyable to me. It’s also the genre that got me into electronic music as a whole, so it’s a pretty important genre to me.

my dad was a huge raver so he used to play drum and bass all the time in the car when i was a child (like 8 / 9 lmao) and i loved it, it was fast paced and intense, im glad someone else relates. the comparison between drum and bass’ violent and impulsive youth and breakcore’s sad and mellow youth was brilliant too, i’ve never really thought about it like that but wow music really does encapsulate the feelings throughout the decades perfectly

I love how DNB is slowly making its way into mainstream media. For example, the song Depravity by Norman Sann is DNB+Trap and that's kinda what got me into the dystopian DNB scene.

I love how simple the production is on this compared to a lot of hip hop production. Not to downplay the intricacies of the genre, but just because so much presence is placed on the, well, yanno… DRUMS AND BASS you don’t have to worry so much about EQing different elements and trying to find creative ways to fit everything into the mix. For me, mixing is the most difficult element of producing, so I appreciate how much easier this looks to mix. Final product was great btw

While I had heard various other artists from time to time (Freestylers coming to immediate memory), Project: Human by Dieselboy was the very first full album/mixtape I had ever bought and listened to all the way through. Just like with you and your first taste of dnb, I'd say that album made an impact on me for the rest of my life. It wasn't until last year I actually took a deep dive into the history of dnb and where it originate from. I'm not really a music history buff but I was absolutely fascinated and enjoyed onboarding the roots of the genre. Made me appreciate it 100x more. Definitely felt the real talk in this one.

Hey, here's a personal tip for anyone reading this, tends to work better when it comes to splicing the drums for me. SliceX is REALLY good for getting just the kick, the snare, etc to use as if they were almost a normal drumset like FPC or something.

Funnily enough, I prefer using Fruity Slicer to chop up breaks. It's just quicker and easier that way, though some people prefer using the playlist...and I don't blame 'em for wanting natural-sounding chops. I do appreciate this video, but I also know you're only shedding light on the top layer of the breakcore iceberg, like it's showcasing the more accessible stuff. Again, I do appreciate you showcasing some of the harder-edged side of DnB and stuff. Good job.
@iwannabeawitch
@iwannabeawitch 2 жыл бұрын
i used to use the slicer but just switched to the playlist a few months ago since it's faster imo. and it also doesn't have that weird silence inbetween drums unless you stretch it
@okcheez1814
@okcheez1814 2 жыл бұрын
@@iwannabeawitch Actually, I just rememebered. Since Fruity Slicer is the default sampler with beat slicer on top of it, I would increase the release on envelope. Something I could've done a long time ago since I learned that while trying to sample a melody with Fruity Slicer. Long story short, in a past track, I sampled a melody using Fruity Sampler. The only problem is that it clicks. So, what I've done is go to the envelope settings and then increase the attack and increase the release. Both attack and release are then made round so it's sounds more natural. In DnB breaks, I would just lengthen the release and go from there. I'm not sure if I'm making sense, but I hope this helps in chopping melodies at least.

Whyever KZfaq didn't showed me this banger earlier. I can just agree that DnB just hits different. This Track man ... I love every second of it. I'll tried it myself and getting a good sounding drumbreak in there is (at least for me) easier said than done, though you really nailed it. One question would it make sense for you to upload those finished songs to Spotify as well? I know you use Spotify for your personal stuff but your such a variety artist that I believe lots of people would love your tracks in their playlists (me included). If not I get that completely . Anyway keep up the awesome work fam.

Being one of the people who walk you through making a song! I was wondering if you could do a “how to Mac j” or Bris? They’re super popular in the Sacramento scene and would be a nice change from most of the mainstream rap today!

Great video. Also want to share a tip that i use especially in making breackore tracks. To devirsify drum section and add some rolls with glitchy effect you can apply gross beat with your settings on drum sample and link it to randomized peak controller. Experimenting with this sometimes really leads to interesting results
