Hello!
This is a video about how I prepare my avocado seed before carving, what to do when it dries, and how to protect it after you finished your work!
I made a video in Chinese before, now I decided to make a video again in English so more people could understand how to do it. And this time I also take some samples to show you what you might see when you're drying your avocado seed.
If you have any question, please common below or send me messages. I'll try my best to answer or maybe make more tutorial videos:)
If you'd like to see more of my works, please visit my Etsy Shop:

Thanks so much to people who cares about the effort I put into this and wants to support my work. I've spent lots of time on experimenting and doing research by myself.
I'll be more than grateful if you buy me a nice a cup of hot chocolate or coffee, which will give me lots of energy to keep this going!;)

Hi! I found out recently by accident that leaving the stone or seed to dry with the outer skin on for a couple of weeks, it does shrink with out cracking by the middle. That way it enables you to carve the whole seed. I love your carvings BTW, awesome workmanship. Cheers! [EDIT: you've got a sweet voice, it gave me the ASMRs]

vonsopas Hii! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and the kind words❤️ That’s a good news for people who want to carve the whole dry seed! I remove the outer skin at first simply because the it becomes too hard to carve when it dries out, and also that could speed up the drying process. But with a bit more strength or powerful tools, the dry whole seed is definitely a great material for carving! Thanks so much for letting me know🙏🏻

@@ZaZaChiaChia one question, I apologize I'd you've answered it before, but how long do you let them dry for?
@ZaZaChiaChia
@ZaZaChiaChia 4 жыл бұрын
Gunther Thomas Hi! I live in the U.K. and the seeds usually would dry completely in about a week. It would depends on the humidity of the place, so it is different everywhere. Unfortunately, in my experience, if the place has high humidity and temperature, it might be harder to dry naturally before the fungi gets it. I heard some people would try baking in low temperature in the oven, or using some kind of drying machine, but I haven’t tried it myself. Hope this would help and good luck with everything:)

@ZaZaChiaChia
@ZaZaChiaChia 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! It's great to know that your seeds dries well! The most important reason for drying the seed is to carve tiny details, if you find it still soft inside, just don't do details before it becomes as hard as wood. But I think you can carve them at any time, usually mine can start carving after drying for a week or less. Sometimes I like to carve while it's half dried, cause it's easier to cut for a bigger part. You can cut the shape first while it's still soft, or just do the carving and drying at the same time, play with it and you will find out more:)

@@ZaZaChiaChia Ive got a followup question: Is it necessary to peel the outer skin off at all? As i said, ive done this to quite a few seeds now and theyve all tried perfectly, ive even made a couple of turtles out of them. But the ones with the skin still on seem to dry MUCH slower.
@ZaZaChiaChia
@ZaZaChiaChia 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheLazysketcher You are right! For me, peeling off the skin is to fasten the process of drying, and get rid of the stone hard surface. Sometimes it's like they will never dry.... But I guess peeling off the skin is not the only way to dry it, I'd like to keep my mind open. As you already know, there can be many different design by keeping or not keeping the skin, or peel just a little bit.

@ZaZaChiaChia

I haven’t try to use dehydrator yet, because it’s quite easy to dry the seed naturally in the U.K., and I don’t mind the waiting. But using a dehydrator would be a good way to dry the seeds in a humid place. If you’re thinking about using that, remember to dry it slowly, because the seeds might crack if drying too fast :)

Syrnichek Kofe Hi. That also happened to me once. That might cause by drying too fast, or big temperature change. Every seeds are unique and have different moisture content, so it’s hard to know how exactly it will turn out after drying. If this happens a lot, I would suggest keeping the inner side skin on for a few days when drying the seed, let it dry slower, then remove the inner side skin when the outer side starts to turn hard. Hope this would work. Good luck:)

Do they rot eventually or last forever?
@ZaZaChiaChia
@ZaZaChiaChia 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I believe you can keep it as long as you like with a good care, polish it with oil or wax to prevent a fungal growth and moisture. Sadly, I can't live forever, so I can't be sure that it can last forever. But I think it's just like wooden stuffs, keep it well then it could stay in a good condition, and it also could rot if being buried in the soil. :)

mine shriveled up before the carving. Where did I go wrong?
@ZaZaChiaChia
@ZaZaChiaChia 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's possible that some seeds contain more water inside, so it might shrivel more than the others. It happened to me as well, the seeds I got in Asia usually softer than those I got in the UK, those were too small for carving... If the seeds shriveled but it dried well and still big enough, I think you could still try to play with it. Good luck :)

My seeds are molds, why?? Hello from Brazil.

Marcia Solange Hi! The drying process could be tricky sometimes, it needs a dry and airy place, and dry it before the fungus grows... It would be hard to dry in a humid place. My seed dries in about 5 days. If you see it grows a white and powdery layer, that is ok, just remove it. Unless it grows hair and looks green or dark.. Good luck!!!
