I’ve always use merino wool products from icebreaker (New Zealand brand). Better than any synthetic technical clothing I’ve ever owned.

I have been using Rohan gear for over 30 years now and my wardrobe is pretty much all their products. Even their jeans are amazing as they have stretchy fabric and have hidden zip pockets so you can't loose stuff. They were founded in Skipton, North Yorkshire which is where I live so I'm proud to wear it. The founder was a biker but was unfortunately killed in a bike accident. They're now based in Milton Keynes of all places!

Ditto, they have t-shirts, underwear and the Explorer range. Fast drying and packs small. Especially if you use vacuum bags. Expensive but super quality.

Hi Mr. Flyer, Couldn’t agree with you more but my variation have worked in the offshore and deep diving indusrtry where Rohan gear is probably the most popular. For riding I take 2 light weight tee shirts short sleeves plus 2 long sleeve ones and 2 sets of Rohan base layer leggings. These are next to the skin every day. The tee shirts are selected depending on temp but always where leggings and comfortable under Rukka suit and no chafing. In the summer Europe and UK or hotter like North Africa. i just rotate the gear and hang over night and is dry by morning because of its high tech nature. If still damp like socks just hang the next night and ready for the following morning. I do like your method and will try out for none high tech tops etc. The Rogan gear takes up little space and can be scrunched and pushed into corners without creasing 👍

Hey TMF. I must give my thanks to you for your advice in this video. I have been touring for years and never once rolled washed clothes in a towel to get rid of most fluid. How to dry your clothes on a long trip - go on a long trip to a hot country😅
@fuglbird
@fuglbird 23 күн бұрын
Washing and drying clothes is trivial when you stay at a hotel. You can even just leave them in a bag and get them back folded the next morning. On motorcycle tours we always stay on two star campsites - without washing machines and without driers. Two star campsites are more quiet than 3, 4 and 5 star camp sites. Wash the laundry in a sink or in a dry bag and wring it good. Put up a clothesline and hang the laundry there. I have done so since 1979. When doing business trips on my motorcycle I do use hotels. I hang my suit on a hanger in the shower cabin, close the outlet and let the hot water run for a little while before I close the tap. The next morning all the wrinkles are gone and the suit is nice, smooth and ready for business.

3 pairs? Fancy! Good tip tho. Another approach is very cheap t-shirts/skids and chuck them away when you decide they are too disgusting. You can use them as rags for boots/bike cleaning before binning. (My pants and DNA are all over Europe) Plus, on the return trip you have more luggage space for cigs and booze.

I’ve used Rohan gear for thirty years and agree it’s the best clothing for travelling light. It’s often has SPF40 for protection too. Their merino mix range is good too. That was after learning that cotton gear often doesn’t dry well in humid climates such as Sri Lanka. At home though I prefer cotton Ts, shirts, underwear and 501s.

You can also roll them in a towel & 1. Put them in the bed/sleeping bag by your feet. Learnt this on a mountaineering course & 2. Put the towel/pants in the microwave for 10" blasts. Works wonders. Adds to your tip.

Hiya. Been doing this since student days in the 80’s - you can get them even drier by one person holding the towel at each end and then twisting in opposite directions. Amazing how much the towel soaks up if twisted.

Good tips, although when your main gear gets saturated you're pretty much stuffed. We did Spain and France a few weeks back and had a week of torrential rain. All our waterproofs gave up and even the panniers ended up like ponds. We tried everything but in the end gave up and climbed into soggy clothes each morning!

The 'Rule of Three' for undies, socks and T-shirts, I reckon, and you can't go wrong: one's scummy, there's one you're wearing, and the third one's clean, ready to live and sweat again another day. I liked your rolling-in-towel technique - hadn't thought of that. However, in the absence of a hotel towel, I favour the 'mad bastard windwill technique' (no copyright on that yet) of whirling wet kit around your head to expel water. Obviously, that's best limited to clothing rather than, say, hard panniers.😉

Good idea. Keep up the good work. Hopefully you will someday do a trip of New Zealand. If so, I advise to do Tasmania as well, which is amazing riding and is the island just south of Australia. To get there you go to Melbourne and either fly from there or take a ferry. I think Tasmania (Tassie) has provision of rental bike companies as well.

Hey Andy, Great post on how you dry your clothes etc.. Are you able to give an overview on what KIT for maintenance you take with you like when you tour on your GS.. What kind of maintenance do you carry out enroute and also what tools you take should anything happen. I am about to organise a trip for me and Mrs Vidz next year and this will be my first time doing a week or more trip on a bike in Europe. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. :)

You were in a hotel... didn't they have a hair dryer in the room? You know those wires that you use for doing up freezer bags..... one of those will keep the trigger pulled on the hair dryer. Great for gloves, blow them dry from inside by jetting the air into the hand hole. For clothes, make a tent from the damp towels using the shairs and blow hot air in from the hair dryer.

Up to a trip, I usually save some old clothes and just bin them as I go along. If I run out of clothes, I'm sure there are shops for new ones. I know this can be pricey if you use baselayers. So I use baselayers over the underwear and t-shirts. Maybe it's not the best way of wearing it, but it's good enough for me. Saving me the washing! Thank you mr Flyer!

Your title is wrong. It should be how to dry your clothes on a long trip if you are staying in hotels. It is of little use to a lot of us who don’t travel that way, having a damp towel can be a much bigger problem than having a damp t-shirt or socks. I usually use an ancient technology, it’s called a washing line and tends to work well.
