Great video! The breakdown you provided was incredibly helpful. We have a couple of FormLabs Form3 printers and after some experimentation, we decided to opt for the after-care painting method. Although we were tempted to add the IPA ink to the print trays directly, we didn't want to use a new clear tray for every new color. Keep up the good work!

Amazing, well spoken, to the point magic! I hope the alcohol inks I ordered are as potent as those were. I read somewhere that someone used pigment powder (pretty sure it was glow in the dark) and the substance sunk to the bottom and the end result was a damaged FEP. I have a number of metallic powders and I hope I have the success you did!

I am building a dice tray with a large 24v wireless induction coil module embedded in the bottom, and plan on making resin dice with wireless LEDs inside them, and this has me wanting to try making the dice with my 3d printer, with a small tube cut out for the led to go into, which I can then fill up with resin from the tank and re cure to ensure the lights are dead center. SICK. I planned on using a medium grit sandpaper to give them a frosted effect to diffuse the light and make it so the LED isn't as obvious, but this might be even cooler.

I have also experimented with mixing alcohol inks into the resin with glossy resin pigment powder (not pearl-ex brand)... I am however using water-washable resin (due to ventilation/washing convenience) the results are great but I find the powder starts to settle to the bottom of the resin vat during printing quite quickly and I end up with a sparkly bottom (printed first) and more plain resin on the top... this is probably due to the lower viscosity of the water based resin. This, however, incidentally worked well on some models (unplanned victory) where it enhanced the overall look and effect, but on others it ruined it a bit... one model I actually inverted the original print orientation to make the glitter settle where I wanted it.... if the glitter settles too much tho the print will be weakened in those layers..... just my 2 cents worth!

Cheers for sharing man! Is proper interesting hearing your experiments with water washable resins. If I leave my set-up for a couple of days without printing I definitely notice colour layers forming in the tank and the glitter settle. I've always made sure everything was mixed together well before starting a print. Would love to see some of your 3D prints with this colour transition change, come make a photo post in the forums if you have time ☺️

@@Core-Electronics cool !! ... will do so. Also about to try the alcohol ink but using an airbrush for a smoother finish as well as experimenting with creating a gloss finish using UV Resin (water washable) and a UV light source. I will let you know how it goes...

Would have been nice to compare the resin alcohol mix withOUT the pearlx for a 'true' comparison. (wondering how much of the 'cloudiness' is due to the pearlx). Also, would be interested to know if you don't mix the dye in completely (leaving swirls and streaks) how that effect might come out. Also, with the above swirling using a couple of different colors to get multi-colored streaks or areas. Perhaps like a Yellow + Orange + Red to create a 'Fire' effect? I would be interested in another video if you did the above techniques to see how they turn out. - thanks

Nice mate, I have been doing further experimentation with this. This model here was made with a two different colours of alcohol-ink with no PearlX. instagram.com/p/CQ4pxB6rjIn/ I have left swirls and streaks in the alcohol ink before and found it not to result in much change to the final piece. The movement of the print platform as it goes up and down ends up mixing the ink, making for no multi coloured streaks on the final print. When printing with PearlX if it is not mixed in fully (or has settled to the bottom) can cause issues with the prints. A technique that might interest you that I did get some clear colour sections was by printing with two separate resin. You can also pour alcohol ink as it is printing to change the hue of the final component. instagram.com/p/CPwjgR9ooMO/

Been wondering if this would be effective myself. I was looking to maybe reproduce Dazus Christmas icicle in a fashion similar to a set of glass ornaments my grand parents had. They where clear with a slight blue coloring that could be seen when held up to the light.

What a beautiful 3D Print file! I have no doubt with some of the techniques I explored in this video you could get exactly what you desire 😊 Just use less Alcohol Ink than me and utilise Transparent Resin.

Have you tried to paint the alcohol ink on not from IPA/Acetone but from water? The ink is poorly soluble in water, but it does disperse well in it

Thanks for the great video man! A question: @ 4:10 you are saying that you add 10 drops of alcohol ink + half a tea spoon of pearl-Ex powder. Ok but to how much of resin do you add these? 50ml? 100ml?

So if I do the 2nd method then I don't have to use primer or anything right? Just print, brush on the alcohol ink, let it dry, cure, then clear coat gloss?

I’m thinking of trying to make a fire elemental fox using one of these techniques. which do you think would work best? I’m thinking of dying it using yellow and red to get a gradient what do you think. I’m just getting started with 3d printing.

Wouldn`t the dying after curing look very similar to the dye before curing if it also had a gloss coat?

It would improve the final finish but they would still look a little different. In the article I have images of the moment both the jewels and triangles without gloss coat and the result at that point look quite different.

i treid to do the pearlex and ink thing but the pearlex powder all fell to the bottom and didn't really come out. i might not have used enough but i'm not sure. in the only other video i could find the guy had a printer that actually moved the vat instead of raising the plate.

Make sure to give it a good swirl/mix before you start any print so that way it floats all around. At 4:30 you can see how thoroughly I mix it.

The pearl x powder takes away the transparency, It would of been nice to compare transparency with the others with just the ink in the resin tank. as now we don't know how transparent the finish will be. what would of been best is do 1 print with just ink in the tank, then one with pearl x to compare the finish.
