You seriously have no clue how much this has helped me!! I need to make a rug and I want it to be purple but they didn't have any cute purple fur fabric to make my own so I was thinking how in the world could I make a purple fur rug? Just dye the white fur.. but how?? This helped so much and seriously saved me $300!! I just need to find a big pot
@__WJK__
@__WJK__ 5 жыл бұрын
If the rug is too big you can dye it in your home washing machine... a couple important tricks to remember: 1) Turn up the temperature setting on your water heater the night before so you'll have lot's of "really" hot water ready for the process the next day! 2) Make sure to set the appropriate water level on the washer for the size rug you plan on doing, too little water and the fabric & dye won't circulate properly! 3) Make sure to use enough dye (more water requires more dye) especially when using the 1/2 or 3/4 water level settings (1-2 bottles = lighter colors/3-4+ bottles = darker colors). 4) Remember to turn down the heat setting on the water heater(!) 5) You remembered to turn down the heat on the water heater...right(?) :)

Thanks so much. I've been wanting a dark green chair for ages but I'm not willing to pay 300 bucks for that😂 so now i can use the leftover seat cover if one of my living room chairs and dye it dark green. Yayyy. I was just concerned about it not being able to hold colour since it's 100% polyester, but after seeing your results, i must say I'm amazed. Thank you❤ and thanks from my bank account for saving me 300 dollars😂😂

Wanted to see if a Thermometer was necessary, thank you for showing it wasn't. A lot of you are asking questions that the Bottle of Dye will tell you: Rit DyeMore can be used on Polyester, Nylon, Acrylic, Acetate and Blends with Synthetics, (the Fabric should tell you it's composition) if it is a Fabric containing Cotton, Linen, Rayon or Rame, you will need Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative as well. The Fabric needs to stay in for at least 30min (specially if it has Polyester in it) up to 60min for one dying session. 1 Bottle can dye up to 2 Pounds of Fabric, if the Fabric contains Polyester you will need x2 the amount of Dye minimum, depending on the desired result. I used the Graphite on a pair of Light Blue Sepeckled Leggings (Nylon 67%, Polyester 39% and Elastine 4%), and I now have a lovely pair of Dark Grey/Charcoal Speckled Leggings. I used half the bottle, as my leggings weigh 1/2 a pound and they contain Polyester, so not sure if a full bottle or another go around would get it truly Black, but I am quite happy with them not being a solid Black, some colour depth is nice.

I store gems in tiny plastic casings, but the stores don't have black foam, only green. So I'm dying them black, washing, then drying before I store them in the containers. I'll do testing afterwards to make sure they don't stain the stones or something. Regardless, thank you.

I have a question. I’ve purchased a couple of bottles of RIT Dye so I can dye a couple of pairs of White Fruit Of The Loom Sweatpants and Sweatshirts. I purchased a couple of bottles of colors such as Purple, Lemon Yellow, and True Green. I’m wanting to know if the RIT Dye will actually work??? I also purchased a couple of bottles of RIT Dye Fixative to set the color. Now I keep being told I’ll need salt and dish soap when dying. I went on the RIT website for directions I NEVER seen where I’ll need dish soap and salt. Whenever I go to dye I’ll use 2 bottles of each Color just to make sure the sweatshirt and sweatpants get all around color. Also can I use RIT DYE on Fleece sweatshirt and sweatpants???

could you please do a full tutorial from washing to drying with faux fur of a larger quantity, it'd be extremely helpful
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 6 жыл бұрын
Different faux fur will react differently so it's best to test out the process on a smaller piece first. A lot of faux fur is dry clean only so soaking in hot water may cause it to shrink and the softness and texture may change. This was true for the piece we tested. That doesn't mean you can't do it, but you really need to test it first. We have more complete results at the bottom of our written instructions here: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/rit-dyemore-synthetic-fiber-dye/

The stretchy lace came out pretty dark. Could I add red dye to the mix to make it a brighter purple?
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Anita, If you only leave the lace in a short period of time, it should come out lighter and brighter. You can add red if you want a warmer shade of purple, but it won't affect the brightness. Since this lace is 100% nylon, the regular Rit All-Purpose Dye works on it too. The lace came out lighter with the all-purpose dye. Find the video for it here: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/rit-all-purpose-fabric-dye/

What about Crypton fabric? Can I de-performance a fabric by washing it a certain way or adding something like vinegar? I purchased a not inexpensive slipcovered swivel armchair chair that’s supposed to match the off-white sofa we ordered from the same place but the chair fabric is bright white and the company is giving me the runaround. To have a new slipcover made is 1/2 the price of the chair. I was all set to start experimenting with Lady Gray tea and two RIT dye combinations (Sweet Cornsilk and Ashton at the Opry) on some similar fabric scrap pieces and then I read performance fabrics can’t be dyed. 😩 Advice please?

You can dye many types of plastic with this dye but hard to say how black polymer specifically would except the dye. I'm guessing you may be able to get a very dark purple. It won't be any lighter than the black but if the black isn't a super dark black, the purple may be visible.

I have a dress that's 63% PE (I'm guessing that's polyester?), 31% viscose and 5% spandex. It als says on the lable to wash it at 30 degrees Celcius and not to tumble dry. It currently is between soft pink and bright pink in colour, but I would like it to be dark burgundy (though a bit more purple). Would it be possible to use this dye? And could I mix colours to get the desired shade?
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 7 жыл бұрын
If you stick to the washing directions on the dress, 30 degrees Celcius would probably not be hot enough for the dye bath, especially for the polyester fibers. If you're willing to risk it, you would likely be able to get the color you want with the water in the bath being near boiling. Along with the racing red color, using some of the graphite and possibly a little royal purple would be our suggestion for the color you describe.

What fabric dye did you use & what material are your shirts? Is the water nearly boiling. There are a few reasons but I would need more information!

Hi, thank you for answering all the questions! I am dying a gown complete with boning, bra cups, lining, and train. What kind of container would work? I can't think of a 64L container that would fit/withstand stovetop. Is it okay to just have hot water in a sacrificial plastic bin? Near boiling high heat would also warp the boning. Any suggestions? I can also take the dress apart and dye it stovetop piece by piece? but then I'm afraid the colours might not match. The dress also has a petticoat that I will sew on afterwards. Can I do 2 separate dye batches with the same dye or do I have to remake the dye if I'm going to have it for more than an hour?

It would be best to dye the pieces individually on the stovetop. The heat is important for polyester especially. Different materials may dye to different shades, so even if you dye the whole thing together, the different components may come out lighter or darker. By dyeing them separately you might be able to control the shade better by leaving them in shorter or longer depending on how fast the material absorbs the dye. You will have to make a new dye bath after each batch. For a more complete analysis of the results in this video, go to the end of our post about it: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/rit-dyemore-synthetic-fiber-dye/

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer my questions. The video is also amazingly helpful! I'll take the gown apart then, much appreciated!

Hi I have a white shirt that is 95% cotton and 5% elastane I was wondering if I could still use this bottle in black and I’m confused to how much dye and water I should put in?
@onlinefabricstore
@onlinefabricstore 2 жыл бұрын
One bottle of dye will dye about 2 lbs. of dry fabric and you just need enough water to submerge the material.

The best test video of all time ... congratulations. A question ... I want to dye polyester tshirt but I want to fear tones ... not so intense but pastel tones ... how many tshirt could I dye with that bottle?

You could normally dye about 6 - 8 T-shirts to full color with 1 bottle. For a light shade, you may be able to double it, so about 12 - 16 shirts. This is my best guess, but you might want to ask the experts at Rit Dye: www.ritdye.com/contact/

So I’m dying my bridesmaid and I need to know if it would be easier to use a gas stove over a glass top electric. I’m super nervous about doing this.

Hi Sara, the type of stove shouldn't make a difference. Make sure you use as large a pot as you can and stir it constantly to make sure it dyes evenly. Good luck!

Aren't you nervous about shrinking the garment material..? If you do decide to do it, Do it in the washing machine, "top loader" (I would say bathtub but it might stain it.) First, Run a short load of laundry on the hottest setting first so that the "Hot Water Heater" will kick on and runs for a bit, so the water gets really hot. Then you fill the machine"EMPTY" with hot water and add the dye. Then close the lid and allow the aggregatior to fully mix and dissolve the dye first before adding the "Wet" Garment, then you can Close the lid to "stir" then open it to "soak"... "You can also boil some water in you're largest pot and add it to the machine too." (The "cotton dye" instructions also mention "Setting" the color using vinegar and salt) Good luck and congratulations to the Bride.

I was definitely nervous but I did have a backup dress. I just wanted to use the cheaper of the two so I could return the $350 dress that I’m going to wear one time. I did it the first night and it turned a little bit on the purple side so I did it again and mixed purple with pink. I got it a really dark pinkish purple color then dyed the dress one more time and added brown to the mix and the dress came out exactly as planned!

(Sara Saites) Nice!!! Save That Money! "But remember, That unfortunately the dyed dress will fade with each wash."If you will ever wear it again," Best to wash it in Cold water now. But you can always dye it again!😅 👗🎩
