With the help of CineMatch I will break down how easy it is to color match different cameras. This software makes it as easy as a snap. I tested out this software in Davinci Resolve with the help of the Canon C70, BMPCC 6k Pro, and Lumix S5.

Firstly yes best color matching tool out there and highly recommend. Second color science does still matters in a sense but it more of a sensor thing because it doesn’t match the gamma curve. This isn’t a problem as you just have to match this instead which is a lot easier with the color already matched for you. Great product

CST in Resolve isn't designed for matching footage - it's just a generic formula that puts your footage in the correct gamma/gamut for grading. CineMatch actually performs a sensor match on your footage prior to our transform, so your footage is matched much more closely out of the box

Yes, CineMatch provides much better match results because we actually do a sensor match to align the camera footage prior to the gamma/gamut transform. CST is just a generic transform, it's not tailored to the camera sensor and it's not doing any matching

@cinematch113

In our testing, CineMatch works much better than the Color Match in Lumetri, because it's purely based on camera sensor data - there's no AI or scene-matching guessing going on, so the results are a lot more accurate and reproducible across difference scenes

Beyond matching cameras can’t you just upgrade your footage using the log of a cinema camera 🤔
@danielrdotcom
@danielrdotcom 3 жыл бұрын
The issue is that each manufacturer has its own log gamma curve, and using their own rec709 conversions will not lead to the same image even if the cameras shot side by side with the same glass. The interpretation of the data ends up being different (one manufacturer has reds pushed towards orange or blues towards cyan, or even slightly varying luminance values on the same color) and so you need to reach a baseline at which each gamma curve is the same (which is what they did here).
@WillCarterTech
@WillCarterTech 2 жыл бұрын
“Upgrade” isnt the right word. “Color Match” is the right right word. You aren’t going to have red footage, you will have red looking footage. But its not going to act like red.

@@cinematch113 So, I did that thing. Used an A7sIII, FX3, and a BMPCC 6k and went to match everything up. I will say that I got better images than I thought I would but that is not to say that your plug-in was at fault. I am brand new to the production side and 15 years out of knowledge on the post side AND this was my first project back with only 24 hours to put together over 500 edits for an hour-long show. Welcome back! I did very little post production and the plug-in did a good job, especially with the Sony cameras matching up to BRAW. I did not get as good of an result when using BRAW to BRAW but there may be several reasons for that. 1) Can you make a video explaining the use of your adjustments once the plug-in is selected? Your documentation did not do it for me. 2) I did not quite understand the process for selecting the first node and then not setting the second half...but then second the second half on all the rest. Overall however if anyone is on the fence about buying this...DO IT! Especially if you use multiple cameras. I cannot tell you the weight it took off my mind in having this option, especially since I am new to it all.

Actually, no :) CST is just a mathematical transform that converts your footage to the correct gamma/gamut ready for grading. CineMatch does a sensor match before this step, which aligns the colors from your camera to the target, so it's a much more accurate and faster tool than CST in resolve. no, color science matter. people who says color science does not matter is the same person who says gear doesn't matter. when you reach a certain threshold, it's just a pain in the butt color matching all these cameras. please stop. there's a reason why top dogs shoot alexa. i'm a colorist and it hurts when you spread things like this. although you can technically match. the slight color shift on different iso. every shot is just different with different color science
