There are more ways to remove a Gibson-type bridge / stopbar tailpiece insert but this is the easiest and safest way! You can actually use a small length of plastic (or metal) tubing to do the same thing but, at the time, I had my guitar makers vice next to me and I noticed that the mounting bracket was the exact thing I needed for this job. So, I used that instead. IMO, there is no better way to remove these inserts...
