How to easily repair damaged or leaking air compressor hose

In this video we demonstrate how to repair your leaking or damaged air compressor hoses. We will cover replacing worn out or damaged hose ends and also deal with repairing leaks and punctures in the hose itself. It's cheap, it's fast, and it's easy, so don't replace that hose, just fix it!
No special tools are required.

Thank you so much for the amazing video, step by step, clear enough for any DIY to follow. After I was done, got a bucket of water and dipped the repaired part into the water, still leaking, tried to tighten the screws, no luck. So I made a fresh cut, insert both ends, used 2 new clamps, still the same. You dont feel the leak, but every few hours, I hear the compressor in the garage running to refill the tank. sorry for the long explanation and hope you have a tip I may follow to succeed in this. Thanks in advance

Off hand, I'm not sure why it's still leaking. When you submerge it in water, can you pinpoint the source of the leak to the joint where your hose is connected to the fitting, or could it be actually be in the quick connect or the fitting you have attached? A Schrader fitting for inflating tires, for instance, can easily leak. There is a special tool to tighten these fittings. Having said all of this, if it takes three hours for your compressor to kick on, it would have to be a very small leak and I wouldn't think that you're loosing enough pressure to effect what ever job your doing. I've never had to repair an airhose until now and your explanation was great and very helpful. I watched a few others but they didn't explain how to repair an airhose midway through the hose. This is exactly what i was looking for. Thank you so much.

i wonder if you can melt the hose with a heat gun or torch and not use the clamps

I've never done that or seen it done, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. I think rubber hose might burn before it melts, but it might work with plastic hose. If you try it, let me know how it turns out.

just check it after cutting it it a different size but before I panic I should see it the hose barb I ordered works its suppose to come tommorow in other news if I was try to make a diy air compressor line it would seem important to have a regualator if you need only a specific pressure so it seemed my theory was to put a check valve before a regulator and a shut off after wards does that sound logical to you ? thoughts pleas thank you if I figure out a final solution will have to let you know as its not quite the size I was think ing but I am not ready to panic yet

Sounds logical, but as I mentioned before, I'm not an expert on bike pumps. I use a quick connect attachment with my shop air compressor that has a regulator built in when I air up tires.

can I not apply the same idea if I have an air pump tip I dont like ?

I don't see why not. The new tip should have a barbed end and would be installed just like we did in the video.

thank you for your response so assuming I could find something that fits I just bought a bike pump but people have commented the chuck on it is not good but otherwise it would be a good pump do you think standard air hose repair techniques should work thoughts please thank you

thank you I think I have done a hose repair before its good to know that the same skills should apply thank you ps if for some reason I was only able to fill my portable air tank when near an air compressor it would seem an addtional consideration would be put a flow regulator valve in the hose maybe ? I guess though if I were to do that I should also put a check valve as well ? thoughts please thank you

I seldom use my portable tank, so I really haven't thought much about this. But having said that, you may use yours frequently and, if so, it's not a bad idea to add them for an extra measure of safety. @@Fredengle

My apologies. When I read "air pump" in your question I was thinking you meant "air compressor. So if you are talking about auto and bike tire inflators, I'm no expert. They often have a lever clamp on fitting on the end that is crimped in place. Try searching Amazon or ereplacements.com with your model no. to see if they have the right fittings. I think the fittings like I used in the video will be too big.
