The question: Can i use a 64GB microSD card in my android device...does it work?
Yes, it does work! In this video, I demonstrate how I easily get a brand-new 64 GB (class 6) SanDisk microSD card working in my Android version 2.3.5 Samsung Galaxy 4.0 Player. No more having to settle for only 32 GB of additional storage...now, you can purchase a 64 GB MicroSD card with confidence and double the size of your maximum additional storage (to 64 GB!), knowing that it will work on Android firmware versions 2.3.5 and up. It may work on lower versions as well (i.e., Froyo), but i don't own any devices running lower Android OS versions to have run a similar test.
Anyway, thanks for watching and feel free to subscribe!!

Actually some phones, tablets, & cards are hot-swappable, which means they can be removed with the power is still on. Just make sure the device isn't writing data when you pull it, or it may get corrupted. It took me a couple hours to rescue a corrupted card, because I didn't realize my tablet was still writing stuff on it when I pulled it.

Example: Suppose the drives on my PC before any USB connection is made go up to Removable Drive K. Once you connect your device to your PC via USB cable, you should see 2 new removable drives show up (Removable drives L and M). For me, it was removable drive M (the 2nd of the two that show up) that corresponds to the 64 GB microSD card storage. That is, whatever you drag and drop into Removable Drive M will be what shows up on the MicroSD memory section of your device. Hope this helps...

I plugged mine into a PC (w/ the 64 GB microSD card inside the Android device and recognized) via the USB cable and was able to transfer files. You have to just make sure you're using the correct Removable disk drive that appears. For me, i had 2 new removable disk drives appear after i have my Android device (with 64 GB microSD card inside) plugged into my PC. I dragged and dropped the mp3 files i wanted to add to my device to the 2nd of the two removable drives and it worked like a charm.

Total memory after initially formatting the 64 GB card is 59.46 GB. I have put a bunch of mp3s onto my card and am currently at 35.94 GB of available memory, so i've used up about 25 GB of the card thus far. Getting closer. Should be uploading some more mp3s this weekend. Will keep you posted...

Make sure you have a microSD card plugged into the SGP4.0. Then, connect it to your computer via the USB cable. So long as a successful connection is made between your device and computer, you should see 2 removable drives appear- 1 for the internal memory of the SGP and 1 for the microSD card. Make sure the removable drive you are uploading the mp3s, videos, etc... to from your computer is the one for the MicroSD card and not the one for your already-filled up internal memory. Hope this helps.

When you have your Android device connected to your PC via USB cable, make sure the removable storage drive that your saving to corresponds to the actual removable storage for the microSD card. Each time you connect your device to your PC via USB for uploading software or files to your device, you will have 2 removable drives show up under "My Computer". The storage that corresponds to the microSD memory card is usually the 2nd of the two removable drives that show up. Hope this helps...

QUESTION: I have a question about a 64GB SDXC MicroSD card from Samsung being used on an AT&T Android Phone. The box of the AT&T Phone said the phone had a maximum limit of 64GB. By default, I automatically presumed this meant a 64GB MicroSD card with a format of exFAT due to the fact that FAT32 is said to have a limit of 32GB. I used my PC with Windows 10 to confirm the Samsung MicroSD card was 64GB in size and formatted in exFAT. I then transferred nearly 64GB of mp3 songs and mp4 videos with AAC audio format onto the card. At this point I inserted the 64GB MicroSD card into the AT&T Android phone. I tried to play some of the audio files. But, the AT&T Android phone said the card was "corrupt." I then went back to Windows 10 on the PC, and the card was working fine on the PC. But I went back to the AT&T Android phone and once again saw the card was called "corrupt." At that point, I saw the message in the AT&T Android phone that told me I should "format" the SD Micro card. I was given two choices. One choice said something to the effect of, "Will you want to use this card for media and files in between devices" and the other option was something to the effect of, "Will you want to transfer files." I was not entirely sure which one to select, because both could apply. I selected the option of "media" between devices. This "format" of the MicroSD card by the AT&T Android phone caused the card to be recognized by the AT&T phone. However, all data was lost in the format. I thought, "Well, I will just transfer everything to the card again." When I went to the PC to place the MicroSD card into the PC, there was a message on the PC telling me the MicroSD card was "corrupt." I received an "Error" message. The 64GB MicroSD card was now formatted as FAT32 in Windows 10. This made me think the AT&T Android phone insisted on using the FAT32 format, even though the box said there was a maximum limit of a 64GB MicroSD card. But, that would still not explain "why" the PC was saying the MicroSD card was "corrupt." I tried transferring files to this MicroSD card after it was formatted in the AT&T Android phone, but I was told every time that the file was too large. I am not referring to files larger than the maximum limit of 4GB in size. I tried small files of just 2MB in size and I still received that message that the file was "too large." I tried using this SD Microcard on another Android phone from Motorola. The 64GB MicroSD card was successfully recognized in the exFAT format. I also used a third-party app to format the 64GB MicroSD as FAT32. The 64GB MicroSD was also successfully recognized by the Motorola Android phone in the FAT32 format. Why is this AT&T Android phone causing the Windows 10 PC to see the 64GB MicroSD in FAT32 format as "corrupt"? Are there any other problems and/or solutions you may suggest to fix this situation?

Just finished uploading several music video files, movie files, and more mp3s. I'm down to 31.56 GB of available memory on the 64 GB SD card. The total available memory on the card is 59.6 GB, so i've used up a total of ~28 GB of the SD card. Probably still isn't answering your question, as there's still 31 GB left to use, but it's still able to store at the moment... I'll keep you posted as i put more content on, but i'm running out of large file applications to upload onto the device.

I will do a few other experiments tonight to test out what you're asking, as it's a good question. For now, i'm assuming that you'll have to likely reserve a 64 GB microSD card for the extra storage in your Android device and keep it in there. In another test, i took the microSD card out of the device (without uploading any new data to it) and quickly put it back into the device and it was fine (no need to reformat). But i'll do a few other experiments and fill you in...

you might lose a little tiny bit to overhead but the largest loss in space is not really a loss at all. just a different way of "measuring" the space. think of it like temperature. if you use F water boils at 212 but if you use C water boils at 100. you did not boil at 112 lower you just using a different "SCALE" 100=212 in this case your memory is the same. memory makers used 1GB=1000bytes while the operating system uses 1GB=1024bytes. (like C and F) Next message.....

What i'd recommend is to put your microSD card in a memory cardreader device that will read it to your PC and transfer the 32 GB or so of files from it onto a separate directory you create on your PC calling it something like "my 32 GB microSD card files". Make sure all the files save to that folder on your PC. From there, follow my steps here (pop microSD card and format it as i mention). (continued...)

The one test i did so far was to remove the card from the Android device (the card had been formatted for the Android, but i didn't load any data onto it...it was empty) and put it into my came. The camera asked me to format the card which i did. I took some photos with the camera, thus there was some content on the microSD. I then took the microSD card out of the camera and put it back into the Android device and needed to reformat it again in order to use it.

Yes, it also works in my very old Galaxy S i9000 (pretty similar to your Galax WiFi)! Problem is: The microSD's greater then >32GB come pre-formated with exFAT file-system. That's not usable by this older devices and leads to this "damaged SD"-message. 2 options to get it work: a) Format it WITHIN the device (as shown above), or b) Delete the exFAT-Partition via PC and create a new FAT32-Partiton (e.g. with GParted-Live Disc - not supported directly under Windows!) After that (in both cases), the microSD contains a 64GB-sized partition formated in FAT32-system! This works! THE DEVICE SIMPLY NEEDS FAT32 - THAT'S ALL! In my opinion there is no reason why not format a partition >32GB with FAT32 instead of exFAT or others. You can even format a single 1TB-partition on a HDD with FAT32 instead of NTFS/exFAT - no Problem! The max. partition-size for FAT32 is 2TB. The only real limitation of FAT32 is, that ONE SINGLE FILE may not be greater the 4GB of size. So you only won't be able to film a VERY long video in HD, so that the file-size exceeds 4GB - or you won't be able to copy a HD-movie as MKV/MP4 from your PC on it, when the file exceeds 4GB. If you don''t want to do that, FAT32 is fully OK!

good question. Haven't tested this on the tablet. Best way to find out is to find out what version of Android is running on the 2.0 tablet. If it's the same Android OS version as the galaxy player i tested this on, it should run fine. If not, it might still work. Check and see on one of the Android forums if someone has posted anything about the 64 GB card being compatible with the tablet. I think it should be. Personally, i'd shoot for using a 128-GB card for the tablet. :)

Ok. I had this problem at first too. Let's see if the reason i was having my issues is the same as yours. So, when you connect the device via USB cable, you should see 2 removable drives show up under "My Computer". If you drag and drop the files you want to store on the MicroSD card memory into the wrong removable drive, then you'll have the problem where you will see the extra space but nothing will be added to it. For me, I dragged and dropped into the 2nd of the removable drives that...

Get a Class 6, as that's been proven to work. Make sure you buy one from a reputable vendor who has a lot of positive feedback. I would just buy a single one. The one i got was the SanDisk Class 6 which comes with the adapter. It should be around $70-$80. Just look at the pics of the product on the page where you're thinking of buying it on and make sure it is what you're looking for and the seller has a lot of positive feedback.

Test summary (part 2 of 2): and removed the 64 GB microSD from camera and reinserted it into my Android device. Android loaded it in and didn't recognize it ("damaged card" error). So, i reformatted the card as in the video and card was recognized again with the 59.62 GB capacity again. This test shows that all manipulations to the 64 GB microSD card must be done with card inside the Android device and connected to a PC via USB cable and not through any external card readers, etc...

This is because when you buy memory from a manufacture they're selling it as "64000000000" bytes which when you convert it to gigabytes it turns to about "59.6" Gigabytes. This is because you don't divide by 1000 when converting you divide by 1024 each time.

i would try moving some of the larger files you have stored on the internal memory of your Android device (like mp3s, video files, photos) to your MicroSD card to make room for these apps to get stored on your internal memory if your device is giving you issues with the 32 or 64 GB card.

Ok, test complete (summary will be in next comment). Nevertheless, as i assumed, you'll have to devote specific 64 GB microSD cards to your Android device for now. That is, once the 64 GB card has been formatted in your Android device, you'll have to add all your files to it via USB connection between Android device and PC. If you take it out and try adding files to it via some card reader, it will ask you to reformat the card once you stick it back into the Android device.

so if you take 64000MB in 1000byte units and divide that by 1024byte units. you get 62.5GB not 64GB. as to why it jumps even further down to 59.4GB that I don't know. so there is something "more" going on but my 64gb reads the same way.

That card, according to SanDisk, should only be formatted as exFAT, which is why your media player is reporting it as damaged; it's a file system it doesn't support. When you format it with your device, it formats it as FAT. "Reformat into file system other than exFAT may cause instability; Only compatible with SDXC enabled device in exFAT format per SD Standard" -That's why I see numerous complaints about problems people have. Your device was manufactured to support no more than a 32G card.

Therefore, if you have more than 64 GB worth of data that you're looking to put on your Android device, i recommend reserving a few 64 GB cards that will be completely devoted to your Android device and will not be manipulated by any other card readers/devices. With this, you can confidently remove/reinsert the cards from/into your Android device w/o having to reformat them when they've been reinserted as Android will recognize the (Android-devoted) 64GB card again once it's been reinserted.

** Important point: So long as you're using a 64 GB microSD that you've devoted to your Android device (by devoted, i mean a card that will not be manipulated by any other card reader/media device other than your Android device when adding or removing files to it), you WILL NOT have to reformat the 64 GB card if you've unmounted and removed it from your Android device to swap it for another 64 GB card you want to fill, as Android will recognize the devoted card again once it's been reinserted.

Yes you just format it to FAT32, default allocation unit size instead of format into exFAT or NTFS. Most modern Androids & hardware made in the past 5 years will except standard 64gb cards formatted into FAT32. If you plug the card into a card reader or thumb drive reader, you can also format it to FAT32 on any computer too. Copy your files that are on it to the computer or a drve first, because formatting any card or drive will erase everything on it. After you format it ti FAT32 you can put the files you saved back onto the card if you want.

+Betty Pearl Moto G 3rd Gen. 2015 Model No: XT1541 UK marketed Globally 29th July 2015 using Lollipop 5.1.1 (until I install Marshmallow 6.0 over the air - after sorted out memory problems). I also have a SanDisk multi-card USB3 cable card reader/writer. Where do I find the format tool on the phone or within Windows 10 HP 64-bit operating system to use? What SDCX Card storage size would be best to use out of; 64GB-, 128GB or greater up to 2TB, with a 32GB MicroSDHC Drive? I would use SanDisk SDXC cards that if possible include Class 10 because using only UHS probably wouldn't work with Motorola G and X phones. SD Association since I last researched SD, in 2015, has created a new speed class called, 'Video Speed Class', but luckily Class 10, haven't been made redundant yet, should still work for 4K Video. The problem with backing up Android phones will the; backup or copy all folders and files including Calendars? Is there a method that will backup everything more quicker? Tomorrow, if copying SD Storage from Moto G 3rd Gen. 2015 linked to Windows 10 from a Windows File Explorer Window to a created folder on my Desktop continues to transfer data extremely slowly I shall see if copying between two Windows 10 Explorer Files is any faster.

The only question you have not fully answered is have you specifically loaded one of your 64gb microsd's with more than 42gb of data (pics, docs or music or apps), how much over 32gb you've gone and confirmed the device still reads above the 32gb barrier? I appreciate the hard work but need this answer before considering a potential waste of time.

Hey mate. I've heard it works for the regular version of the Galaxy Note, so i'm assuming it should work fine for the international version too. And yes, i pop in the 64 GB microSD card (external), then wait for Android to give the error, then go to the SD card and device storage menu and, under the SD card section, choose format SD card. Then, you should see the total memory increase to 59.4 GB (if you're using a 64 GB card). Hope this answers everything...

I just tested out a 1.05 GB transfer of mp3 files to my device. I clocked the transfer at 8 mins, 35 secs. I'd say it's slower than the class 6 spec. I think that is one drawback in using 64 GB microSD cards in Android devices- though it will work, you will not be able to make full use of all the cards' capabilities...in this case, the class 6 speeds.

...show up and then i was seeing the files on my device. It is very important you drop the files into the correct removable drive. If you drop them into the wrong one, it will look as if the files have been successfully added there (on your PC), but you won't see them on your device. This sounds like the problem you may be having. Let me give you an example to illustrate in case what i'm writing here is confusing:

I don't know what to tell you, dude. I used a class 6 and it worked fine. I usually do all my uploading on my desktop with the GMP4 plugged in via USB and then just transfer the files i need onto the removable drive that pertains to the microSD card. Btw, is the rendering of your videos, where nothing ends up loading, happening for videos that are saved on your device memory too or just videos saved on the microSD card? Are you able to load or see anything that's on the MicroSD card?

Hey, I have an android ZTE Warp. I'm thinking about buying this card but I'm not sure. I don't put any movies on my phone at all, and I rarely take pictures. It's strictly music. I have a huge music library, and my 32gb is almost out of memory. Do you think it will work on the ZTE Warp?

What I suggest is if you plan on buying a 64gb sdcard, buy it with warranty, then fill it up to 40 gb then if it doesn't work, you can just give it back

It’s only fair to mention that Mini Micro SD Cards require you to use a Mini Micro SD Converter Decoder for very few PC’s have the ability to truly recognize and read these new advanced High Speed Chips ( that is of course if the chip is Not Fake) or else you maybe just wasting your time.
