I'm going to be editing a book which has a mixture of images and text in Scan Taylor first, then in Abby fine reader.

Thanks. A really great and informative video tutorial (simply the best on youtube) on ScanTailor Advanced. I myself (on my end) didn't know about the amazing naps2 scan tool until I saw your video - I used that software to scan three books so far (each 287, 680 and 970 pages). I thank you so much.

Thank you this is by far the best tutorial I've found in looking to convert books and really demonstrates the terrific features of ScanTailor Advanced. Your style is very easy to watch too. Thanks for putting this together it will help me. I'm looking to use a variation on the 'cardboard box' scanner to capture book pages as photographs and then convert using ScanTailor.

This is really useful and thanks for the detailed explanation! I have a SV-600 Scansnap. I didn't know about ScanTailor / ScanTailor Advanced and the Scansnap s/w itself IMHO is effective to some extent (but cluncky) but not really good-enough to produce quality book scans by itself. With post-processing by ScanTailor, the scanner seems to come alive at last.

Hello. Thanks for the video. NAPS2 can also be used to recognize text from images, making it possible to create PDF files with a text layer. (NAPS2 uses the Tesseract OCR engine to recognize text in multiple languages.)

Not long - just fiddle with the settings as you go along. There are one or two other tutorials but none shows everything you can edit.

Disk space is cheap. 300dpi should be considered the *minimum* acceptable resolution. 600dpi is preferable if you can acquire images at that resolution. This is what I use when scanning books using my Hackerspace Scanner equipped with a pair of Canon Elph 160 cameras and powered by PiScan. Thanks for explaining the Margins feature - that's going to save me a ton of processing time in the future. (don't ask. 🤣)

@@TeflDude Basically, you get red asterisks for each page that deviates more that a certain angle, content area or margin size. You can control the threshold in Tools -> Settings -> Processing -> Deviation. (Taken from Issue # 115 at the Scantailor Advanced Github page.)

I am interested in whether it is possible to scan a paper book that is in French into a pdf or jpg and then translate it into English or Croatian. The book has drawings and mathematical formulas. Is it possible to keep the formatting of the original paper book in the final pdf? If it is possible, I would ask you to make a video on how to do it. I have not been able to find on the Internet how to solve this problem, which I think many people are interested in. Thanks

I sent a pdf to your email. here it is for anyone who wants to know how to solve a similar problem. I made a pdf to help you. I see where you went wrong. In 'Split pages' you need to click the left BOX under page layout. I hope it helps. drive.google.com/file/d/1rpAVb02IInvLMQbzBTZOopW4YQcctMIU/view?usp=share_link
