How To Edit Salesforce Compact Layout (Highlights Panel)

In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the process of updating the the Compact Layout found on any record page.
The Company Layout (or Highlights Panel) show a few key fields on the record in the top panel of the page. This helps users identify quickly important data points without having to scroll or click around the page.

Hi there! I really appreciate your efforts by making these videos. You make it very easy to understand. Quick question for you: Can we assign different compact layouts according to the profile?

You can assign compact layouts by record type, but not directly by profiles. If you have multiple record types for an object and then create multiple company layouts, you get the option to assign them - run through it in a developer org. So you can't assign them according to profile directly, but you can have profiles only have access to certain record types. I wouldn't recommend creating record types if all you want is to have different fields on a compact layout per profile though.

Hi Really appreciate for taking and sharing this video which is very helpful while practicing on Trailhead by myself. I have 2 questions while practicing on compact layout. (1) Is there any system limitation on the number of compact layout? Because I had watched a video which said there is ONE custom compact layout creatable under each object. But I did create 2 compact layouts under a same object...... (2) Can I change the compact layout back to the system original one after changing to the custom compact layout? I had change it to the one I created as what you did in this video, but even it looks okay to change it back to the system original one, it does not work on object UI at all.

Great questions! You are able to create several compact layouts per object, but only 1 compact layout can be assigned per record type for an object. If you don't have any record types, then only 1 compact layout will be assigned as the default for that object.

How Can you remove some of the fields, only on certain viewports?

If I understand you correctly, you would need to create multiple Compact Layouts and assign them to different Record Types on the object.

@@salesforcenow And then How can I assign those new Record Types to the certain viewports I want to display them. What Im trying to do, is having multiple layouts depending on the viewport Im visiting, one for mobile, and one on cellphone.
