Holy smokes, my man! I’ve spent all day watching vids and messing around with EQ, Dessers, spectral editing and nothing was doing the trick. Cut and reduce the volume nailed it. Thank you so very much for this!

Dude, thank youuuu!!!! I always just assumed I had to do blanket filtering and what not to try to EQ it away but I never got the result I was really looking for. I tried editing the esses but I didn't get the same intuitive feel you just imparted about them! I am so much happier editing these instances one by one and preserving the integrity of the rest of the audio. Thanks a million!

New subscriber, back for more. Presently doing post on a bunch of separate audio files for internal web-based training. Thank you for this technique! I've been using amplify (de-amplify really) to grab the Esses and cut them down to size. I never thought about just chopping them. Sounds fine after a chop and a little drop in dB. Again, you da man!

how do you prevent the missing fragment from desynching a video and audio track. One sibilant probably wont be noticed, but with each extra removed this way it will become more obvious that audio and video aren't in synch.
@joeessayvoice
@joeessayvoice 3 жыл бұрын
Oooh that's a tough one Midrealm. You'd have to be removing the exact same amount of time from both the video and the audio, or by adding that exact same amount of time in a silent bit after that word finishes. Both are a complete pain. I think the de-esser program would work better in this application by far. Check it out here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qL5-odZnq7Gmf4k.html

hi Joe, I have a lot of sibilance in my voice and the sss's are long. I've tried de-esser plugins without much success. I don't understand how to use them correctly and what all the adjustments mean. I've been manually de-amplifying and cutting sections of the sibilance out one by one. Very tedious for me with all my sibilance, but using the de-esser messes up the whole track. I'm now experimenting with knocking down the "S" frequencies in the filter curve and cutting out portions of the sibilance. This seems to be very effective and doesn't seem to affect the whole track, but again, it's tedious. Do you have a tutorial on understanding de-essers and the different settings and their effect.

Hey Mike! Thanks for the note here. Take a look at one of my other videos on a DeEsser in audacity for free, and see if that might fit what you're looking for! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qL5-odZnq7Gmf4k.html
@Mike-ny6sf
@Mike-ny6sf Жыл бұрын
@@joeessayvoice looking at that video too. I get a fairly good reduction in the sss's but it also seems to knock down the rest of the track a little too much. I'm playing with getting a noise reduction profile of a sample and then applying it to the whole track. For me that seems to work the best so far. But I still need to learn about frequency. Trying the analyze-plot-spectrum feature, but not much into it yet. I have such a super soft voice--it drives me nuts. I have an ATR 2100 mic and have to get right up on it, and that accentuates the sibilance. Maybe an audio interface would help me punch the gain and allow me to get farther from the mic. Or maybe a different mic would help with my soft voice and sibilance. Thank you for your tutorials.

Good info but I think that s sound is being made with the letter c. I love English but it is a hodge-podge concocted from several languages so most letters have more than a single sound.
