How to Effectively Practice on iRacing

We’re talking about practice, man! Well, Dave Cam is, anyway.
Practicing on any sim or game can be a difference maker when it comes to competing at a top level. Some will have that inherent talent, but practice can refine those skills, and Dave explains some tips to maximizing practice time while utilizing iRacing.
Learning the perfect racing line is important for speed, but it’s not like there is only one car on the track. Learning how to combat alternate lines around corners when other cars are there is more important than most realize.
Also, many of the official series on iRacing feature live pit stops for road races as well as many oval tracks. Even if the race might have that yellow fever feel, it’s better to know how to pit at speed and exit pits correctly than to not even know at all.

Your last sentence about not moving over is good. I'm waiting on my wheel and pedals to arrive and I've managed to get out of rookie on every class and I'm up to class C in rallycross. I let people by since I'm unable to fully control what I want my car to do, but I generally will practice and pressure as much as I can. The alternate lines make sense, I will have to practice that. I'm new to proper racecraft.

Wheel and pedals came. Still tweaking and getting things set up but I'm already able to run side by side and overtake 😇

@@nate2662 ok work has calmed down, and here's what I've learned over the years. Getting a sturdy and somewhat comfortable stand is a must. I've always used my desk or a TV tray or something and it sucks and is not immersive. I splurged on a Next Level Racing wheel stand and it is so sturdy. The whole wheel stand with everything on it is around 100 pounds. Force feedback is something you'll need to tweak. Most have a program that deals with force feedback settings, and then there are other tweaks in game. I suggest looking up how FFB works and how you can tweak it for (insert game here). Pedals are important because you need to be able to give smooth inputs. Just like FFB, you can tweak all of those settings so find something that works best for you. I grabbed some T-LCM pedals and I'll never go back to cheaper pedals (even though mine aren't super great). Depending on the game you play, your racecraft and overall skill level will somewhat dictate your performance. There's no replacement for seat time. Lastly man, enjoy it. If you're into racing and want to get better, it's going to take time, finding what works best for you, and slowly increasing your skill level. My first week of my wheel I've loved, and I've already gotten into the "I HAVE to get better" and it has taken the "fun" away from my racing.

how do i get my car to move??? I just spent money for 3 months of iracing and once I'm in a practice session with my wheel/pedals set up I can only rev my engine in place and turn the wheel. how do you drive in this game? please help
