Josh, If I were a coach and stumbled onto this email, I'd make some time in my schedule to meet you. The maturity you show is the real intangible coaches search for. DO you think a short intro video by the athlete, if it is right for him or her, makes sense in addition to the typical skills videos and game footage?

I think personal email is probably better to make sure they see it but it is more convenient and easy to message them thru NCSA, I’d try 1 of those methods and then the other later if they don’t respond

Hey Josh, really appreciate such an informative and thorough video. I’ve seen you saying in the comments that coaches can’t reply/interact with players until their junior year. Can you provide more clarification on that? I’m about to begin the second semester of my sophomore year in high school. I am planning on sending out the “intro” emails you talked about in this video to my selected colleges. But if the coaches can’t interact with me, what’s the point of sending out emails? Should I just wait until my junior year? (Disclaimer: I play basketball, not soccer, but I figured this video is applicable for all sports). Thanks!

Hey Michell, thank you! According to NCSA (I just quickly googled this), for most sports coaches can’t reach out to athletes till June 15 after their sophomore year or sep 1 of their junior year. Because of that, there honestly isn’t much reason to email coaches before that other than to get on their radar early, but this would only really be worth your time if you are a d1 prospect since they recruit early. I’d say till those dates it’s best to just focus on your grades and improving as a player, then get film and start emailing once they can reply back

Hey Josh thanks for the video I am trying to grow in KZfaq and appreciate the video. I have some questions though. One, what year and what time are coaches allowed to respond to your emails? Usually I send out my emails to the assistant coaches. because I feel they have a better chance of being seen. I know ideally you would send it to the whole staff, but Do you think this is a good strategy or should I send it to the head coach? Also can you get both academic and athletic scholarship money? Thank you.

Thank you, Nice to meet you man! I’m pretty sure once your junior year of hs starts they can directly talk to you. I would definitely try to send it out to all the coaches, because certain coaches have more responsibility over recruiting but if you had to pick one I’d go for the head coach. And yes you can! NCAA D3 is the only division that can’t offer athletic scholarships.

If you have everything taken and care of and you’ve made your decision, just keep it simple and tell them you want to accept their offer and commit to their school!

He’s still early if he’s a freshman in high school! Coaches can’t even reply or reach out to players until their junior year starts, so he’s ahead of the game if he’s starting now!

Sorry for the late response, but I would recommend emailing now to get their attention and get on their radar if they are a big d1 school, any other division recruits later so you can wait till junior year probably.

I don’t remember exactly but it was in between the best and worst subscription. My tips are to use all the features on NCSA you can that will benefit you, but also understand that not every coach will use NCSA so if they don’t reply try contacting them another way

Honestly, I wouldn’t be too worried about emailing college coaches if you’re a freshman, just focus on becoming a better athlete and footballer, sophomore you should start reaching out and putting together highlights, a resume and a recruiting profile

Yes I would recommend that you start now and work on making one, in the mean time send them your soccer cv/resume and update them on your schedule so they could see you play!

It normally depends on the division of the school, the lower the division the more likely they are to reply. For example, I emailed about 85 schools and got maybe 20 replies, only 2-4 of those were D1 schools

Yes! I’d recommend keeping it fairly short, but let them know you’re still training and working out, then inform of your plans for next year/season, and ask them a question like “what should me next step be to play college soccer or attend ___ university?”

Of course! Here’s a guideline/example- Hi Coach Lastname, I wanted to update you on what I’ve been up to during this pandemic and since our club season was cut short. I have been practicing individually 6 times a week as well as working out 5 days a week. I am also planning on sticking with my club, Benfica FC, next year and so far we plan on starting our season at the regular time. I’ve never heard of them only having phone numbers lol, but it could be a good idea to formally text them and include a link to your highlights, and tell them about your gpa and other important information

That’s a good question man, I would email the coach for your specific event first and then at the schools that didn’t reply to that first round of emails probably go back and email coaches of the other events too
