Hello. You can do very simmilar result much faster this way: 1)offset all affected object's surfaces as new object, 2)then extrude text 3) apply boolean for this two as intersection 4) voila :) ..anyway thanks for nice tutorials

Neil this is great. Question on the "convert to geometry" feature: can I get this done manually if I'm using Inv. 2016? Also, can we make a debossed feature this way? I mean does the thicken support anything that would work to cut the model? Thanks for the excellent videos!

I keep getting a "create parting line failed" issue when I am trying to split. for reference I am trying to monogram a wine glass, it is always the middle letter that doesn't work. The middle one is bigger than the others, still had this issue with the middle one when I kept everything the same size. Any help?

Hey thanks for the tut it's great but I have am issue when I try to add another embossed Text to the same face I get a fail. I also find it really in consistent but I am using 2018. I get issues where the split wont either work for one letter out of 4 or get 2 different errors in the same line of text. One is "Could not build this Split The selected curves for the Split Face operation did not fully intersect the faces to be split. Try with different inputs." or "Selt intersecting paths or loops are invalid for this operation" But I can split the other 4 letters without an issue?

If you don't have "Convert to geometry", 2d sketch your text, extrude/cut text into face, 3d sketch and include the outer geometry, patch the text, thicken/cut. TFI helps me out of all the grief.

G'day Neil. Love ya work. Took me forever to figure out how to do this in Inventor 2015. Can I explain simply? Offset a surface from compound curved face same distance as the depth of text you want, extrude text that's on a workplane offset from part surface to the part surface you want the text on. Then use the previously offset surface to trim the extruded text. Same result as you got, maybe a little quicker? Text isn't perpendicular to the surface, not sure if it is with your method. 'bout time I tried to contribute. Thanks for your work.

Using the timeout font or any other, the split tool will not select anything. Has something changed in inventor 2019?

Great solution but I am needing to install another SHX file to match up the geometry to a font that is used elsewhere on this model where I was able to emboss. Can you help a brother out and show how to import my new SHX fonts?

Nice. I guess to use an actual font, just outline it in Illustrator and bring it into Inventor as DWG.

This isn't a truly wrapped emboss. An easier way to achieve the same result would be to extrude a new solid of the text and split it using an offset surface and then combine. That way the text remains parametric.

Wow - looking at this in 2021 and Autodesk still haven't added a way to project text onto a surface. I get the feeling they are letting Inventor die a slow death so they can migrate everyone to their newer software.

How do you move the camera view at the same time as keeping your curser still?
