How to Embroider Eyes on Amigurumi | Baby Safe Alternative to Plastic Eyes on Crochet Animals

This video shows you in real-time how to embroider eyes on crocheted amigurumi. This example is for amigurumi made with Bernat Blanket Yarn (super bulky weight), and using worsted weight yarn to add the eyes and details. Plastic safety eyes are not ideal for kids younger than 3 so this is a great technique when making stuffed animals and snugglers for babies.

ABOUT SIMPLY HOOKED
Hi, I'm Marcy! I learned how to crochet in October 2012. I wanted to learn something new and decided to give crochet a try. I went to Michael's to buy a beginner's kit and watched KZfaq videos all weekend until I figured it out. I got addicted almost immediately. It is so fun and relaxing! Once I got more comfortable with the different stitches, I started making stuffed animals. They are so much fun to make! Later I began selling on Etsy and at craft fairs. I'm so thankful I stumbled upon the art of crochet -- it has been such a blessing in my life. I love starting every project with a blank skein of yarn and turning it into an adorable plushie for little one's to enjoy. I am originally from the beautiful Lowcountry of South Carolina, and now reside in North Carolina.

Hi Marcy! Wow , I love the way you did the eyes, great tutorial. I have never made an amigurumi before. I have always crocheted blankets mostly, and hats, shawls, scarves and tops. I saw that you said that you have a website for beginner amigurumies, but I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a crochet tutorial on one. I bought velvet yarn to make a teddy bear, then I bought cotton yarn to make a cute floppy legged giraffe for my granddaughter when she was a baby. She is NOW almost 4! I have not made them. I have been tentative to tackle one on my own. But yours looks so cute that I would love to see a tutorial for it. Do you stuff the body too? This video popped up for me too and I thought , oh, that’s great. I am a new subscriber and hope to see more crochet videos. Thanks! ❤

I'd suggest not using velvet yarn for your first project because it's almost impossible to see your stitches
@MarcyMade
@MarcyMade 5 ай бұрын
Aww Sandy that’s so sweet, thank you! I just started this channel and definitely plan to create a video about amigurumi. I’m also working on a “Learn to Crochet” course that will include amigurumi, too! Coming soon! ❤ I stuff the body sometimes, but you’ll notice a lot of my designs have unstuffed bodies (snugglers) so that little one’s can carry them around easier. Velvet yarn can be hard to work with sometimes and cotton doesn’t work great for amigurumi. See if you can find a soft worsted weight acrylic yarn or try Bernat Blanket Yarn (super bulky weight) 👍

Thank you! I have been searching KZfaq for a week and your tutorial is the best I have found! I have a question, how would you make oval eyes? I want to try and make the eyes with embroidery, any tips you have would be greatly appreciated 😊
@MarcyMade
@MarcyMade 5 ай бұрын
Hi Jennifer! That is so great to hear, I'm glad it was helpful!! To make oval eyes, I'd recommend making that initial straight line over TWO rounds (instead of this example which only covers one round, if that makes sense?) Then, instead of hugging the yarn on the sides until it gets round, only do that about half the time to make an oval shape. I hope that makes sense, it feels hard to put in words lol
