2004 2005 2006 Toyota Sienna 3.3L V6 engine
Friends van kept on starting intermittently at any time, cold or hot days. It's been happening for a few weeks and she decided not to drive it for a while.
Come to find out the starter had a broken stud. It was not getting enough power from the battery. Replaced the starter, it was under warranty.
Now the car is starting immediately with no problems.

This story has the familiar ring of a time when I had no money and a Honda civic with a bad starter motor. For six weeks, in the snow, I push-started that little car from the parking lot to get home. It was so satisfying to swap in a rebuilt starter, my first successful DIY car repair. These days I understand a lot more about the science of auto repair, but that feeling of accomplishment is unforgettable. In this case, I wonder if a drop of locktite two years ago on the terminal bolts might have prevented the loose connection you found later. Or, maybe it was just the solenoid after all.

hello brother, thank you for sharing. wow i would have done the same thing. Push-start is not always fun when you are alone. On car repairs i learned you have to be patient or you will break things. LOL in life, when you keep on trying and don't give up, you will eventually get there. good and bad. but you always learn something and it changes you. everyones perspective is different but you got to make a positive out an experience. thank you for watching. stay safe and stay well

my dad had same thing happen to him on our sienna 2006. managed to get one more start out of it to drive it home by whacking it. went to junkyard got one that had a reman sticker from a few months ago!! hopefully it lasts a long time. $30 for a avg $150 starter

By the way. I'm impressed both with your editing and recording abilities as well. I know how hard it is to work on a car with one hand and trying to get the best shots with the other or positioning the camera here and there. It's a totally different parallel process added to the one you are already doing. It's a real pain in the butt. Believe me I know how hard it is what you are doing. Congrats on an outstanding; brilliant job.

My 2000 Corolla still has the original starter and alternator. Also those Everstart Maxx batteries are really good qaulity. I have one too. Project farm tested them to other expensive ones and it did great! Stay safe Angel. ☺😇

almost always, just the starter contacts need replacing and that's it, especially if it's a Denso...they will outlast the car

LOL i lived in Phoenix '04-'05 with my brother for automotive school. we called Phoenix, HELL because it was so hot. And the dust storms is crazy scary in the freeway. Can't see a thing!! Endless patience to unbolt, unscrew, unclip and take everything out :). Half of the engine bay is just plastic tube, box and things for the air intake, wow :O. Be safe Angel, do not forget that too much heat can be dangerous as well - drink lots, be well hydrated - all of you! :) Be safe, keep everyone safe. Addendum: if you get a dead battery in the middle of the winter, make sure to have proper lights if you will be swapping batteries with the Sun down. Working in nearly complete darkness is needlessly complicated :D

I saw a video on how the concrete draining a battery was totally an urban legend. The theory being that the hard plastic shell is a sufficient barrier. Old habits die hard though.

The old wife's tale of not putting car battery on cement is just that,a old wife's tale. It harkens from the days when batteries had a glass case and would shatter if set on the floor carelessly. Some were using a wooden creates to prevent breakage. Don't quote me, I'm not a mechanic, nor have I played one on TV....🤣😂 62 years of tinkering on cars in the shade of a tree...👌

Angel: Working in that high heat has to be very tough. I have seen other mechanics who work outside in very hot weather who use one huge fan that sits low to the ground and it can of course be tilted. They are like a huge barn fan, very powerful, and would make it much more comfortable for you while working. Have you considered that? Blessings to you

Shouldn't you have tried starting the van to make sure that the starter works before reinstalling the airbox and connections? Also, why didn't you purchase and change the air filter since it was so dirty? I'm sure the owner wouldn't mind paying for the new filter. Great video as always. Hi I always have the local parts store test their starters before I buy them. They have a tester. So there is no need to start the car before putting back everything.

I have a 2016 Corolla with so much noise coming from the front. I've replaced struts with Monroe quick easy strust replaced tie rod ends stabilizer bar bushings stabilizer bar links and my tie rod ends inner .. would you have any suggestions. Or way u could help .. fix it angel

That starter was in a fairly easy location, my 2007 civic starter went out and its location was a nightmare, paid someone to do it....

I want to share my experience about no start, just clicking sound problem. I haved checked all the parts that i think is causing the trouble but it turn out all is good. Until i notice, the positive wire terminal going to battery is loose on its crimp. What i did is i soldered all the terminal wire positive and negative going to battery and viola!, 1 click and it start the engine. Sometimes we ignore the parts that we think is not causing trouble.

I used to work at an auto parts store those stickers on the battery are rotation stickers they get charged and tested every month so if they sit on the shelf there good to go at any time that’s not how old the battery is usually the color will change on age .. red sticker means it won’t last very long and has already been charged multiple times

My car clicked like that too. I was desperate n needed my car for work so i decided to get a new battery. My battery was 7 years old. I asked autozone to test my starter and they said it's good but i dont know if i should believe them. Do u think i should still replace my starter? 163k mikes on my car
