Hope you enjoy today’s video! If you have any suggestion or any idea that you want me to talk about, please leave a comment below :) - Correction: 2:03 I pronounced "c" as "ch" in “céng jīng”. It should be "c". Sorry for the mispronunciation.

Thanks, your teaching method is very good. I am little confused How can I make past continues tense.
@GraceMandarinChinese
@GraceMandarinChinese 4 жыл бұрын
You can use adverbs to indicate the time is past and use 正在 or 正 to show the action was going. For example, 我 “昨天” “正在” 睡覺的時候, 有人走進來(我“昨天” “正在” 睡觉的时候, 有人走进来)meaning: when I was sleeping yesterday, someone came in.

In some ways, this seems a lot more useful than most of the textbooks (though they're not bad as well), I like that at the end you do mention about 了and 過, that you'll be explaining these words too. Explanations seem very flexible, easy to understand. Keep up the good work while you have the motivation! :)

It's even more fascinating that 書 in chinese means "book", but in japanese it means "to write". 在 in chinese (zái) it indicates the present continous tense, but in japanese (zai) it means solely the temporal word "present". I loved it!

@@mateuslacerda284 書 in modern Chinese means "book", while in ancient Chinese and some of the sinitic language dialects in china it does mean "write" like in Japanese. 書 could mean "write" in modern Chinese as well when using the verb word "書寫", which means writing with brush or writing something big like history or legend when in formal article writing instead of daily dialog.

It sounds like "dei-xia" probably because your husband was speaking relatively fast. Just like liaisons in Western languages, Chinese, when speaking fast, may pronounce some characters "together". (I am a native mandarin speaker so I know haha. I myself also often say "dei-xia")

Hey there, Grace! Hope you're still reading comments on your older videos, which are btw quite fun to watch :) I was wondering, if there is any contextual difference between "zhèng zài" and "zài" as all the lessons I've seen yet use them interchangeably and I'm not that far yet to understand much outside the lessons :D Keep putting out your great videos, I'm excited to see your channel grow ;)

Hello John! Thanks for your encouragement! It means a lot to me ;) About your question, they are interchangeable in most of the context but 正在 is more stressed on the action is ongoing "at that moment". i.e. He's "right" doing his homework. Hope this helps!

3:59 When should we use 正在 and when should be use 在 ? I've only learned 在 before this video. If it means the same thing, is there a point to use an extra syllabe to express the same meaning ? Or is there a nuance between the 2 ?
@Pronoob88990
@Pronoob88990 2 жыл бұрын
"正在“ tends to emphasize the present action,a bit more formal than ”在“, it's like the difference between "I am eating right now" and "I'm eating", notice the tone difference. And "正在” ONLY indicates action, but "在“ can also be used to indicate location "他在家里”, “He is at home", we also have another phrase"现在在“ to emphasize both present action or location , "他现在在吃饭” “he is eating right now", "他现在在家里” "he is at home right now".

Thanks, but how do you distinguish between different types of past and future tenses? For example, in English we distinguish between "I was", "I have been" and "I had been", and between "I will be", "I'm going to be" and "I will have been". And of course, the conditional "I would have been".
