If it is not working for you this is why. Make sure you have selected the layer (click on where it say layer, next to the dog), not the image. This is the key. Now you can simply paint off with a brush or use a gradient tool. If you paint it, black (now I have to go listen to the song) you make it transparent. If you paint white, you bring back the image.

Great video! But how are you able to use the strokes of the gradient tool multiple times from 3:26? It only works one time for me and if I made a new gradient it forgets the other one. How do you use this multiple times? I hope some one can help. Also it looks like the blend mode is normal.

For anyone who still confused about this I found what works for me is once you've applied the fade right click on the vector masks itself in the layer section and click apply layer mask. You should be able to open up another layer mask and fade it again

When using the gradient tool, the first stroke either lightens or blends with the other image. However, it stops continuing the image after the second or third strokes. However, for some unfathomable reason, it started over as the image's initial stroke. any ideas?

For anyone that's still having trouble after all this time, make sure that after you've created your vector mask that you then click on the mask it created down where your layers are (it should be the white box to the right of the actual layer you want to fade). If you don't select your mask instead of your image, it will just turn out as a solid colour gradient when you try to fade it. I'm not sure why this vital information was omitted in the video, but as long as you follow along and make sure you select your mask once you've created it then the tutorial works just fine.

100% facts you also have to click on the mask when using the gradient. and if you want to only gradient on parts of the image use the select tool, put a box around the area then gradient fade

Don't know what I may be doing wrong but followed your instructions to the letter and it doesn't work. I'm clicking and holding after selecting the image I want to superimpose on top of another one but after moving it to the other background image nothing happens. Are you holding another key down when you select and hold to do the transfer?

Interesting video. Another way you could try and do it is using the radial gradient and then adjusting from there--- especially since you are going all around the dog

Make sure you select transparant in the gradient, not white! Transparant is the checkers board one.

Whenever i do this the blending is uniform across the entire image. How do i make it like in the video- where each gradient is localised to a single part of the image?
