How to feed Audio to Canon 5D Mark iii, 5D Mark iv using an External Audio Recorder

Not having to deal with audio Editing or recording clean audio with your video can save you time. In this video I show you how I record clean audio to my 5D mark iii using an external or dedicated audio recorder zoom H5. I use this method because the preamp of the 5D mark iii is not good enough. And supper useful when I don’t want to spend time working on audio when editing. You can try this approach to any DSLR or SLR

What field monitor are you using?

How do you get the audio input signal to appear on your field monitor when the HDMI connection does not carry audio whilst recording? Thanks.

The HDMI cable should carry audio signal from the camera to the field monitor, if its not, you may need to change your HDMI cable. if the cable is fine then the issue might be from the HDMI port of the camera or the field Monitor.

Canon confirms that no audio is available via hdmi whilst recording. You have achieved this by using the Info button so as to mirror the back of the camera with reduced size of screen. Field monitor does not display audio signal via its own meters. But does on playback.
