Style Archetype Quiz: masculine-style.com/archetype-...
Tanner Guzy and I had the chance to sit down and talk about men's style, personal image, confidence, custom suits, dressing for your age and so much more! Specifically, we cover:
01:16 - Style and manliness
05:15 - Effortless style
07:36 - Suits for shorter men
09:39 - Timeless style
11:21 - Dressing for your age
12:50 - Dealing with insecurity
If you watch the whole video, you just might see an old picture of Tanner wearing baggy BMX biker clothes - a far cry from his current style, which is largely influenced by tailored suits and traditional menswear.

As a 18-year old, Tanner's comment on trying to display age and status without earning it was very interesting. I have always wondered why wearing a suit, no matter how fashionably, would always look unfamiliar to me in informal settings

Thanks for this video. As a short rather stocky man about 5 ft 6 inches tall , I have felt masculine by virtue of being on the muscular side. I cannot grow a full beard even at my at of 51. These small details seem to indicate masculinity. It has been a struggle to feel conformable in my own clothes this way. As you said the older you get the less you care about as you have conquered many of life's challenges to add to your list of accomplishments.

This may be a weird one, but I'm fairly short (5' 7"), and was raised by a single mother. I'm not particularly manly, and I'm totally cool with that. Everyone has insecurities, but lack of manliness, or living up to a gender stereotype, has never been one of mine.

I agree, I don't want tile in a bedroom or living room. : ) I was a bit confused why he says dressing the way you do is important, yet he says, they are just clothes. Besides, the short part of the tie can be tucked into the shirt itself where it's never seen. I've done it and no one even knows. The college guy can wear a suit, just get rid of the tie, or just wear a blazer and nice pants. I like to see people well dressed, I think it's an art of a different kind to put things together and make it look great. For myself, I'm a bit more relaxed, but I do appreciate other peoples efforts.

Okay, height has nothing to do with masculinity. I know 6'4' people who are not masculine (I'm not saying it's bad), and 5'0'' people who are very masculine.
@RamzaBeoulves

Well short skinny guys come off more feminine because the vast majority of short skinny people are women. It doesn't have much to do with actual masculinity but it has a great deal to do with percived masculinity and we all know what truly matters is what the world think of us.
@gilfhunter42069

That's bullshit. Short guys come off more feminine, because they feel more feminine. As long as they OBVIOUSLY have a dick, they are masculine. Period.

We love Tanner and his style, however to say he doesn't care about the way a tie is tied, is just silly for someone who spends so much time on the details of mens style.

The tie looks bad. Just get shorter ties that work for you. I am 6’ 3”, and the narrow end of ties for me falls much shorter than that with the wider end falling where it should on the belt. If your tie is too long like in that picture, why not tuck the full length of the skinny end into the dress shirt? Please don’t tuck the end into your pants!...

@@jamielannister3627 For the height not so much . As for the body it gets bigger if I keep going to the gym and take some protein otherwise my body goes back to small haha. If I work hard at the gym I can get bigger but that means I have to keep doing it.

Insistence on asserting one's masculinity seems like a symptom of real insecurity to me, mixed with outdated gender stereotypes and a touch of misogyny -- not trying to disrespect y'all it just feels pretty desperate; but that's me.
@BrockMcGoff
@BrockMcGoff 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s important to “assert” your masculinity, personally. I do think it’s important to feel like a man - whatever that means to you - if it helps you feel happy and confident. I don’t think anyone will agree on a universal definition of masculinity, and I think that’s okay.
@zacharywozniak1513
@zacharywozniak1513 5 жыл бұрын
I wish the advice were laid out that way then; if it were titled "how to be confident and assured of yourself" -- actually very much like your other video about just that.. you had I think 5 tips for gaining confidence -- then I'd have no argument, I thought that was a great video and great advice. Just the equation of masculinity with confidence I think is.. well wrong and dangerous because if people buy that what do you think their opinion of say effeminate gay guys will become? They're more likely to have disdain for femme-types, be they male or female. That's what bothers me about it; otherwise I appreciate what you're doing.

The Modest Man idk man. invite prince? lmao. its just odd because the title is how to feel like a man without looking like one... and the guest looks manly as fck lol. this is like victoria secret models telling big girls that they are sexy.

Well we covered a lot in a 19 minute conversation. The title is about one topic (of many). But to your point, I don't think you need to experience something firsthand to be qualified to talk about about or teach it. Some of the athletes make terrible coaches. Tanner is uniquely qualified to talk about style, given his background. He's a great coach for any man - short, tall, manly, etc.
