Absolutely a fantastic video! I’m studying up tonight after a failed attempt at repairing the backside of plastic trim with Fiberglass. But I plan on getting it right tomorrow, and my goal is eventually a custom shower build in a van. Thanks for teaching me the content of this video!

Very nice straight forward explanation and demo thank you. I've also used grease proof paper to shape glass around an awkward shape - the paper just peels off afterwards...

I have a Belmont classic boat one of the first to do a fiberglass bottom, Mahogany above waterline. Problem being the fiberglass blistered/separated going from the bottom to the side which only extends 4" to waterline or so. Would you glass those side spots again which are 12"-3" or less. Or make a resin silica mix and fill? Nice job on your video.

Thank you so much for sharing. Very interesting in that this is my first time seeing how small pieces of mat sheets are soaked and massaged into fillets and holes in place of glass in the form powder which I think is pretty dangerous to inhale even with the best protection.

Doing flat bottom boat floor use 1/4 plywood on 12” centers on aluminum angle 1/8 thick 1.1/2 by 1.1/2 or 2 “ by 2 60” by 144” doing both side how many layers any help I would be very grateful for thank

As far as the woven sheets, would they be better suited to covering large areas like the bottom of a flat-bottomed boat or would you still use the mat?

what preparation do you need to make to the glass if you needed to allow the first layer of glass to set before you can lay on the second layer? Like when you work on larger jobs and you can not finish it all in the one go? Thanks

I would give the area a light sanding and wipe down with acetone. Then its ready to go

How long does the resin last before it hardens? I thought that was strange. I just need to redo a flat plywood 3ft x 3ft pad for my mobile home top landing steps into the house after I cut it out and replace with new marine plywood maybe and then fiber glass it. Does it matter? will it last longer with marine grade? That stuff is always so soaked at home depot. Maybe it should be totally dry before the fiber glass. They are old steps at least 20 years old. Depends on how much hardner you use and how hot it is outside. Usually 6 hours is fine. Marine plywood should last longer, especially if underside gets wet. Let it dry before fiberglass!

Hou do you work around outer 90 degree corners. My fiber mat would not stick and keep on coming loose

Just round over the corner. This can be done with an angle grinder or sander. Mult layers of thinner material will also help

Im wondering how long my first prime coat of resin can set before I add the next layer with chop strand mat. Can it set for a week? Two weeks maybe? How much time maximum can it set and would I have to sand it after that long before adding the mat?

The first coat of resin without glass is done immediately before laying the glass down. If you have hardened resin You should sand and wipe down with acetone to degrease then start the process over.

I'm making a small boat, it's needs to be waterproof and very durable.a total of 7 square metres of area needed t be covered. Should I use epoxy or polyester?

Do you have any information on how to fix peeling top coat? The fiberglass porch is starting to peel at spots. The ard clear fiberglass underneath is not damaged but the top coat is flaking off like paint. Thaks.

Without seeing it I would say to sand away any damaged area. Fill with fiberglass or fiberglass putty, sand and then re coat with gel coat. Make sure its completely and wipe it down with acetone before gel coat

Very hard to say. It really depends on what kind of repair, and how much fiberglass you are going to add. I would guess a gallon or two

How do I paint over this? Once the fiberglassing is done, what's the correct order of varnishing? Should I first sand, primer, sand, compound filler, sand, primer again and sand, paint?

If its an unfinished area all you need to do is wipe it down with acetone and gelcoat. If you want to finish it smooth sand, acetone and then use fiberglass putty and a plastic putty knife to fill any low spots. Then sand again. Repeat if needed until desired finish is obtained. Last step would be to gelcoat

@@DIYeasycrafts I own a wooden boat and I want to repair the deck where the existing fiberglass flooring rose up (i dont know how its called in english, as if there are air bubbles underneath). So I tore the floor with a scraper and now I want to repair it. But after the fiberglassing, I need to paint it white as well with oil based paint.

You might be able to get away with 1 gal. I would buy two just to be safe. You can always return the unopened one

Should be using epoxy resin for wood to fiberglass adhesion. Fiberglass resin is for bonding fiberglass to fiberglass.

Actually, poly, vynelester or epoxy resins are all good to use, mostly dependant on what type of resin was used initially when the hull was built, or what was previously used for any other repairs.. Also, epoxy resin doe not do well with csm because it doesn't break down the binder holding the pieces of 2 to 3 inch fiberglass strands..
