Using a screwdriver as a chisel, a bread knife as a saw - WTF???

@@incith Not really. "...this metal tool..."? Holds the can the wrong way up, uses kitchen knives... It's helpful if you've got no idea at all of what to do, and she's got a lovely voice, but no, she doesn't know much about it. Just enough to get by, really.

@@estellec2019 I literally went out and bought a cheap knife after watching this video last month to cut the expanding foam around some walls. It worked exceptionally well and I would highly recommend it, the flat blade allowed very even cuts. I used a chef's knife instead of a bread knife, and I sharpened it first - but I digress. Worked great. I can't think of anything better suited; I tried a hacksaw first and it was a pain. Nothing compares to the knife!

The filler I used literally has in its instructions that you can cut it with a sharp knife. On a different note, I don't have a whole range of tools available ( I'm a woman who rarely diys or repairs things so I don't need so many). I don't have a chisel, for example but have a screwdriver. I don't think it would be worth for me to buy a chisel only for one job. It may be quite an outrageous thing for a professional or a man who regularly diys to not use the proper tool but for a woman (or anyone with an odd job to do), I think it's fine to creatively use something available.

Please take no notice of the negative comments on here. I’m a Level 3 painter and decorator and a Level 2 plasterer. You did everything right and made a good job of it. If a bread knife works, why not use it? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Your screwdriver made a great chisel, although it probably won’t work so well as a screw driver now 😂. You got the loose plaster out (and Mr Wasp out of his tomb 🐝), successfully cleaned out the area to be filled and you sprayed with water, which helps the filler to adhere to the substrate. I suspect you used the can upright rather than upside down simply because you were working at ceiling height. The ceiling would have been in the way of the can. Nicely trimmed with your bread knife, sanded and filled. Enjoy that cup of tea. You deserve it! 👍🏻 P.S. I liked the face you drew on the cured expanding foam, but I think we all know that most construction workers would be making that look like a willy!! 😜 Well done! Great skills!

Your no plasterer or painter even at play school level your like him a clown, if a job is worth doing it’s worth doing right , the first question any tradesman asks himself before rectifying a defect is what is causing the problem and why and there lies the answer to the course of remedial action required Mr or Mrs Bob the Builder !!!

I only imagined before I found your video what I wanted to do, it comes as a visualization. You did exactly what I imagined to do, as my old MH has rotten at the base of a couple panels from the rain. I want to also get rain gutters. Panels are to big just for myself. Labor these days is a crime but people need work I can't afford. You used simple tools & I learned the products I NEEDED 💪. Thank you!

Thank you. I just used some expanding foam but did not realize by how much it expands. Got a big unfinished air gap in my apt bathroom and it'll take a few times to fully fill the gap but this helped with what i'll expect to see later! Thank you!

So far, this is the best video I've seen demonstrating the properties of spray foam and how the finished product looks like on an actual hole, instead of some pro just spraying it on a piece of plywood and talking out of his ass. Very helpful to me because I have similar gaps in the outside walls of the house I just moved into. Now I have a better understanding of what to expect, thanks for posting.

I don't usually leave comments but you hit the nail on the head! Every video I've seen so far has been people sticking things together/ spraying it into fake pipes etc. This video was clear, concise, and showed me exactly what I wanted to see, in a real world situation. Thanks @HOW2NOT2 for uploading this video.

Thank you !!! I am currently redecorating my flat ... and OMG the holes and gaps in window frames!!! You can tell that the landlady has hired a handy man to what I can describe a SH!#T job !!! I am now taking this into my hands and will do a proper job !!! Thai building is a new built and has been built on wet ground so cracks are common !! These people only used filler on top filler but haven’t actually filled the gaps !!! So I have chipped away all the loose filler or anything else they have used it !!! I am on maternity leave and in lockdown so it will be nice to get this place ready for Christmas!!
