Bus & Truck Drivers are required to keep a log book when operating beyond 100 miles. Watch the video! D.O.T. Checklist: www.smartdrivetest.com/landin... SUBSCRIBE TODAY! ► / smartdrivetest
There are several reasons that CDL drivers can get a log book violation:
• incorrect information;
• supporting documents doesn't match the log sheet;
• or not up to date as of the last change of duty status to name a few.
Authorities can determine average daily speeds from your log book, and if incorrect you could potentially get a speeding ticket.
Also, the log book is a legal document and will be used in post-crash investigations, and for tax purposes.
Good luck on your road test.

Got a ticket On the Katy Freeway on 9/1/2016 in Houston TX for not having a log book. My truck in a Ford F350 single axle pulling a private 24 foot enclosed trailer. Combined GVWR 23900#. The fine was $175.00
@smartdrivetest
@smartdrivetest 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard: Thanks for your comment - sorry to hear about the ticket. Is your vehicle registered in Texas? How far from home were you? I don't know for certain--although I've done a preliminary search--and I believe the GVWR is what designated your vehicle as a commercial vehicle, not the fact that you're using it for personal use. I ran into a similar issue with BC Ferries with a 26' Uhaul truck. Although I was using it for personal use and could drive it with a Class 5 (passenger vehicle) licence, the ferry company deemed it a commercial vehicle due to its licence and registration. Thanks again, Cheers Rick

Violation improperly filled out days of service. For those that are farm tagged and driving outside your 150 aerial mile radius, your normal working hours count as in service hours and you have to have a separate log sheet for each of those days even though you weren’t driving. So if you have reset after your two nights off but then on Monday and Tuesday you work on the farm and then driving on Wednesday you have to show that on three separate log sheets. This is a relatively new change. Learned this during a recent audit.
@smartdrivetest
@smartdrivetest 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Randall Cates - thank you for the information my friend. May I ask who audited you? It's my understanding that they can request work sheet hours--separate from a logbook---but those work hours didn't have to be recored in the logbook. All the best, Cheers Rick

Smart Drive Test The actual person was a Oklahoma State Trooper who works in conjunction with FMCSA. He was a good guy and was helpful. 3 violations over several let to the company audit. No wide load permit outside the 150 hauling hay twice and aTurn signal light which lead to roadside inspections of which one of those was also found a logbook violation. He went over how I was doing my log book. Audit was just last month. He did say it was a relatively new change. He told me to show my farm hours in my log book as on duty. I don’t know if this just applies to farm tags. If you like I can get you the troopers email/telephone.

This gentleman referenced 100 miles of travel. The Federal regulations state 100 air miles not just 100 miles. This is very important reference interstate and intrastate commerce.
