How To Fillet Snapper ( Catching Them First )

Catching fish is great but its no use bringing a bunch of delicious snapper home if you don't know how to look after them!
In this tutorial i share a few of my tips to get the most out of your fish. Both in terms of getting the most from your catch and making your catch taste better for longer in the fridge.

Yeah, Matt, you did a professional job fileting those snapper. The skin left on - no scales - is awesome grilled. I use every part of the fish for food. Soup, mince meat for fritters, etc.

Right on, eat them head to tail if u can. Unfortunately living in the van I don't have the fridge space or cooking facilities to utilize as much of the fish as I'd like to. Have considered building a fish smoker on the the roof of my van lol. Crispy skin snapper on the menu for this week's upload 👌

Hey mate, thanks for going to the effort of filming / editing / uploading etc. I found the music volume a bit loud on this one as well as the sound effects - a bit rough on the headphone users. Otherwise all good, thanks!

Very informative Matt. Now all I have to do is catch them! How do you manage to iki the fish without it thrashing around?

My young friend I've gotten many red snapper but never cleaned one. 😮 😮😮 Thanks Matt now I know how!!! Well done 👍👍👍. Do you have flounder there. If so could you please catch some. Season comes in here next month and I love to eat them but yeah I don't know how to catch them.

Thanks man. We do have flounder here but they're a different species to the ones over in the states. They've got really small mouths and won't take a hook, only way to catch them here is with a net or a spare. Hope it's starting to warm up over there

think out of all the fish, the trevally is the easiest to fillet. problem is i don't get enough of them haha

One other point...... Using, a Filiting Knife. And it must be sharp.

I like your show, thanks. Just a thought, do you wash your fillets with fresh water before you put them in the fridge?

Thanks mate. And no I never wash a fillet in fresh water. The bacteria in fresh water is different to salt water and will make the fillets go bad really quick. If u have to wash them always use clean sea water 👍
