Emma Thank You!❤️❤️❤️ I've been wanting to film some of my sessions just as a video diary to look back on. Nearly everyone was suggesting a tripod which doesn't work well for my space. Most people sharing filming arms are working flat with a flexi phone stand and I didn't want to waste money buying things that wouldn't work for me. Thanks again!

I've always struggled with how to get the right camera angle, thanks for showing how you set it up. This helps a lot. I still have to get used to not putting my face in the shot though! 😅

I really appreciate all the work you put into this video! You also confirmed things I've been challenged with in doing this intuitively. I tend to use a lot of physical movements with my expression and find it frustrating when the tripod is right next to me and possible to knock over. You overhead set up is mint.

I have a Manfrotto articulating arm that allows me to film overhead by clamping it to my table (with a very small camcorder). It took me a long time to figure out how people were able to film overhead, there were so few videos out there at the time. I would love to learn about lighting as well (sometimes it can be more expensive than the camera, so many brands that used to be associated with quality are no longer worth buying.)

This was so helpful! Thank you for being so thorough in your explanation. I've seen some crazy camera arm mounts but I'd never considered just hanging a curtain rod on my ceiling. Genius. Learning how to film on my easel instead of top down is going to save my neck and shoulders so much pain. 😅

Emma, I think your films are some of the most informative pastel painting videos currently on KZfaq. Your tutorials cover a multitude of topics, provide detailed explanations and information on product use, and most of all-you are extremely patient in freely sharing your knowledge of pastel painting. The ultimate proof of your efforts is demonstrated in your beautiful work. Thank you for your time and feedback ☺️…

Hullo Emma! Wonderful video and so chock full of great information! I have recorded classes and the editing of the videos was never fun for me. I am interested in watching all of the aspects of putting together a quality video like yours! I have no plans to start my own channel, other than the silly videos I have already posted! I just enjoy seeing how others have solved the problems of creating art and documenting the process too! I have not even done a good job of photographing my artworks for the last few years. I often feel that making it is enough, I know that I should share more, but I am just not sure about doing so. I am truly glad that you are sharing so much with us and hope you continue to enjoy sharing your art and process, now everything involved with creating videos too! Be safe and take care over there!

Emma, thank you so much for sharing your experiences and insights on this. I made a DIY easel stand with PVC pipe yet to buy a plywood as a Art Board to start painting 🖼 Camera Arm is truly useful tool for recording paintings as it gives room to do the work without feeling cautious as compared to tripods that can make us static in our position.

Canon has issues with filming for prolonged periods, as its cameras tend to overheat at the 30 minute mark. I recommend the Black Magic Pro 6K Pocket Cinema camera. It shoots superb-quality video, and can shoot for hours.

Hey Emma. Thank you so much for showing us these options! Do you know if the camcorder will work for long periods of time or does it overheat? I’m looking for cheaper alternative camera that will pick up details, webcams are just disappointing and I can’t zoom in. So grateful for your content! I’m also struggling to find a solution with the angle, will try your method once I figure a better camera. Thank you for sharing ☺️

I used to use a camcorder but it recently broke so I've been using my Canon. They're known for overheating though and switching off which is annoying. I'll be investing in another camcorder soon for my longer periods of filming. You need to film in at least 1080 these days to make it clear enough and make sure you light it well too. That's just as important!

I would like to offer an idea for your work and filming...try a 2 way mirror at 45 degree angle...you look thru the mirror to paint, while filming is off to the side, but by use of mirror/s you could correct most parallax and still not have strait view for you to work, yet film at near the same angle as you view, but you will not be seen other than your hand and arm...Hope it helps you...like your work.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'd like to experiment more when I eventually move to a larger studio. For now I'm in quite a small space where options are limited. Interesting idea though using a mirror!

@EmmaColbertArt
@EmmaColbertArt Жыл бұрын
I think so. I have filmed a couple of still life paintings but my studio is tiny. When I get more space I'll try to set it up. Problem will be the camera can only focus on one area at a time. So either the set up, or your painting. Probably not both. I included a photo of my set up as an alternative. You can see this series here kzfaq.info/sun/PLbkshqfGlew_S8nr1XO9JAvIvJhY9jF3M

@EmmaColbertArt

It's tricky to find a good angle without some compromise. If there isn't a hand that is dominant then try raising the camera higher above one shoulder. You'll get a more foreshortened view of your work vertically but you keep the camera quite central and maybe see both hands.

Emma, I’m new to drawing and have learnt to draw by watching KZfaq videos. I have a question on copyright © I use reference drawing for practice as well for display in my Pinterest and Instagram account. In Pinterest in use couples engagement photos for drawing ✍️ In Instagram I use drawings that are digitally worked with the reference of a photograph take by the artist. Do I need to ask permission and give credit for them in my post at Pinterest & Instagram or without permission mention DM to copyright claim and removal. Because it’s hard to find the rightful owner for photographs in digital media. If Incase I come across someone claiming copyright © what questions do I need to ask and investigate if they are genuine? Thank you so much 👍
@EmmaColbertArt
@EmmaColbertArt Жыл бұрын
It is true that it's hard to find the rightful owners sometimes, but I would say you would need permission to use other people's photos. You can get away with what you're doing probably forever, but as you say, someone could contact you. In the past if you weren't selling the image then you might be ok, but it's tricky these days with publishing people without their permission so I would be especially cautious of the wedding images.
