You got it! going to be doing some more testing the next few days. The new driving range modes look awesome. Remember those are just rough, in the ballpark numbers. You may need to do more or less (mainly altitude) based on your current weather conditions and location.

Thank you sir !!! I have a similar config to yours, outdoor mat hitting into a 10 foot net with trees behind it. I made exactly the same weather changes as you and my figures are now exactly what I'd expect at the range! The only bad read I get now is if I chunk it and I reckon it over-penalises the distance. @@gigatron2008 I suspect since some people never had any shortage issues or very little, the altitude settings will vary person to person (based on where your currently located).

@@gigatron2008Interesting. I'm about 300ft. You may need to go closer to 6000-8000ft altitude within Garmin. Increasing the humidity and temperature will help too

Appreciate it! This update about 6 months ago was a game changer for R10 users. We're still able to adjust weather settings to dial in numbers. I've since improved my backyard setup and needed to increase the altitude to 5300ft due to the mulch, bricks, etc but the humidity and temperature are the same. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the R10!

Great to hear there's a way to calibrate this. I spend a lot of time on high end simulators, am a mid-handicap, and a generally good iron striker. I had the same issues as you with some short readings. Definitely something a bit bizarre in their algorithm. While I'm a little bummed I have to fudge things like the altitude, it seems like a viable workaround.

Agreed. Ideally the unit would register everything spot on or at least +/- 5ish yards as advertised. Until then, this is a massive improvement. Are you able to test the R10 aside a high end simulator?

Thanks for this, was just speaking to an acquaintance who was complaining about HTH not being very accurate. His biggest complaint was his driver never registers over 200 yards. So basically all you need to do is raise the elevation to raise your distances? If I may make a suggestion, build yourself a platform to hit off of that is level with your hitting mat. I could definitely see myself topping balls on the course after hitting from your setup.

Thanks for the comment Greg! Yes- raising the altitude/elevation will have the biggest impact on short yardages. In celebration of the recent updates, I have made improvements to my setup. These include leveling and mulching the entire hitting area as well as sinking the hitting mat into the ground to create a level surface. My numbers and game should both improve!

Glad you found it helpful! Still change my weather settings to this day. I've since improved my setup so now I use 5300ft altitude, 65% humidity, 85 degrees due to the mulch, bricks, etc. Couldn't tell you how much time I spent going back and forth with Garmin when I first got the unit insisting I was doing something wrong lol

Might want to build a decklike platform on which you could level garmin unit with feet and hitting pad... Looks to me like your feet are below the ball significantly and the mat not always on plane. Thanks for the information on update and calibration.

If you check out my newer videos, I have improved my set up with the mulch, bricks, etc. I was able to sink the mat into the ground and leveled the ground with the mulch. The R10 is on a DIY leveled stand behind me. Although not a "top of the line" set up, everything seems to be working well.

@@HoselRocketGolf Actually maybe! HTH is such a gem! The only issue left for the r10 is rf interference but I don't think there is an alternative. I need my fans! Now if you know your spin numbers you can really dial in your r10. Such amazing value. The only thing it's missing is putting and GSPro is game-changing.

This is good information as it heard some bad reviews on net practice in getting yardage dialed in. They returned there R10s probably not knowing this information in setting your altitude and weather information. So where you live that's your actual altitude? 5000 ft.

I appreciate that! My actual altitude of where I live is only 300 ft. I have an ongoing theory that the closer you live to sea level, the more you have to increase altitude within the app to get accurate yardages. It is very setup dependent however meaning indoors/outdoors, materials used or nearby possibly causing interference, hitting area being perfectly level, etc. But as long as you know your stock yardages or have access to high level simulator to get some numbers, you can adjust the altitude as you see fit. Is there also a way to tweak the R10 distance to ball to change the distance readings? Tweaking multiple weather settings arbitrarily seems a bit weird. Thanks for posting your video!

Yes you can adjust the distance from the R10 to the ball with the new update. However, I haven't found it as effective as changing the altitude. I was 2 clubs short on everything prior to the update so the altitude adjustment has done the trick. Are you getting spot on numbers?

So once you set the temp, humidity, and elevation to comply to your normal distances do you need to do those settings every time you turn on the unit to use or will it stay to your settings ?

Good question! As of right now, you need to set the custom weather conditions every time you use it. Only takes about 10 secs but just one more thing to remember. I have seen requests to save the settings which hopefully comes in future updates!

How did you get to the menu screen I have updated the app and the software but do not have a choice of course or a menu for the altitude etc.

Before starting a round in Home Tee Hero or starting a range session, you should see the option to change the weather settings. Once you've already started and want to change something, click the button on the bottom left with the 3 lines. From there you should see the weather settings. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comment Garry! I have tried Awesome Golf (the 2 week trial). Although I did really enjoy the driving range data/metric layout and accuracy, I felt as though the courses were lacking for the price. Personally, I find much more value in the Garmin Golf app/Home Tee Hero for $10/month. The ~45,000 courses are a major selling point for me. The driving range(s) have also improved significantly since the recent updates. Are you and Awesome Golf user?

when you use it each time, do you have to play with the adjustments every time or once you figure it out you use the same settings each time? The wakeup is super annoying but i think the fixed it cause i havent got it in my last 2 sim sessions...

Thanks for the comment Corey! Currently, I have to change the weather settings every time I play a course or use the range. I suspect Garmin will eventually add the option to save the settings. The wake-up bug has been fixed with the most recent R10 update.

@@coreygj Use the same settings as last time. Once you find settings that work well, you leave them the same from round to round. So, if you know your stock yardages or better yet have access to a high end unit (Quad, Trackman, etc) to do a side by side test, you find your ideal numbers for Altitude, Humidity, and Temperature for your specific setup.

I do like 200 for elevation, 0% humidity 100 degrees. I will try this though. The mat you hit off of shouldn’t move around. I spent at least $100 on welcome mats before I gave in and bought a real mat.

Thanks for the comment Al! The initial setup in the dirt was certainly not ideal. I have since improved it by adding some mulch and recently a stance mat which will be shown in future videos. I will eventually get a full 5x5 or bigger mat!

Thanks for the comment! Hope you've enjoyed some of the videos. I currently have four 10x7 nets up. The original is the yellow one with the fiberglass poles. I then put a second 10x7 net up above it so I can hit wedge-driver from the same spot. I strung paracord between 2 trees and zip-tied them together. The original net was beginning to tear and a few balls shot through the zip-tied section so I added a cheap third net over the middle section. That net ended up being absolute garbage so a better quality fourth net went over the same middle section. Seems to be holding up well now lol

Awesome ! I just got the spornia 7x7 net so I hope it works well with my r10. Looking forward to trying the garmin simulator system too. Have you tried any other sims, awesome golf or e6?

@@michaelbiondi2045 I've heard good things about Spornia. I've tried both e6 and the Awesome Golf trial. I could see the appeal for Awesome Golf prior to the latest Garmin updates. The interface and data is nicely presented & accurate but especially now, I believe there is much more value with the Gamin Golf app for $10 a month vs $350 for Awesome Golf. Mainly the 45,000 courses within Home Tee Hero. Wasn't as big a fan of e6 although the R10 comes with 5 free courses and the driving range so can't hurt to try!

@@michaelbiondi2045 When I play by myself, I just use my iPhone. When I have friends/family over, I bring out a TV and use a iPhone to HDMI cable to mirror the screen. No delay and works great!

I synced up the 4.2 update but I don’t see the 3 new driving range selections. Therefore cannot change the weather settings. Not good. Too much messing around with this device to enjoy it, frankly.

The 4.2 update is a hardware update for the R10 unit itself. The driving ranges and weather settings are available by updating the Garmin Golf app. Update it through your app store. Hope this helps!

Yes Sir Hosel RG. Theo at Garmin emailed to straighten me out. I had to uninstall then reinstall the App. Bingo. Adjusted the Weather settings and my club distances are much more accurate. Now lovin’ the driving ranges and HTH courses hitting into my 10-ft high cage off a Dave Pelz turf mat.

@@HoselRocketGolf I've got irons, hybrids dialed in. Driver distance is still short by 40 yds routinely. I have a white sheet w/ black bullseye target hanging in front of my net. Would that interfere with reading the ball when hitting driver ?

@@pdawg9984 Not really sure. I'd say test with and without it. I've only used my R10 into the black nets you see on video (aside from a single driving range session). It's interesting to me that everything besides driver is dialed in. Could possibly be the driver itself (color, swing, waggle, setup, etc).

I get around 70-80 metres with a 4 iron (I actually get around 160). Insane - calibrated, leveled, 7 feet from ball, 8 feet to net. This thing is going back. I don't believe any of the youtube hype

I feel your frustration. Before returning I would just recommend hitting multiple 4 irons in a row and increasing the altitude until you're in the 160 range on a good strike. If I use my R10 at local altitude, temp, and humidity (just plop it down without changing anything) I'm about 2-3 clubs short. Not ideal but once you dial in your custom weather settings, the R10 works extremely well for the price. Personally, I use 5300ft altitude, 65% humidity, and 85 degrees. My club yardages across my bag are pretty spot on from what I see on course. Hope this helps!

@@HoselRocketGolf That's an excellent idea! I'm going to head to the range with 3 or 4 irons and see if I can get them close. I don't need less than a few yards out - if I can hit 150 and its 145 or 155 that is fine for me, even more so if I know which way it is. Makes me think it would be good if a user defined adjustment factor was provided for in the app for each club

I would just caution the possibility of having to use slightly different settings at the range and at home but if you have a club that always goes say 150-155, you can dial things in relatively easily. IMO the R10 should be accurate straight out of the box but at least we have the option to tweak distances.

Well, it seems a little bit poor for a device costing about 500 - 600 Dollars or Euro in Europe that u have to tweak parameters to get correct or good numbers. In my eyes this is cheating. Why is this device not able to put it all together on its own? This is poor. On question: is it now possible to save your data from a driving range session and to analyze it afterwards and not just while using it in a session? Cheers!

Thanks for the comment! Although we share the desire of Garmin putting everything together perfectly and you have some valid points in having to tweak parameters, I would tend to disagree. Changing the weather settings isn't ideal, but it is not cheating. It allows users to match their simulator experience with their average on course numbers. Someone who extremely changes numbers both up or down (100 or 400 yard drives for example) is only hurting themselves in the long run. I'd love for the R10 to be as accurate as Trackman, Foresight, Uneekor, etc, but that is unreasonable given the massive price differences ($599 vs $10-30k). To my knowledge, there is no direct way to export data such as a spreadsheet from the Garmin Golf app. There have been 3rd party developments but I have not tried them. As long as you save your driving range sessions, you can go back months or years within the app.
