Whoa! Wait a minute! You have to dig right there and SHOW us the buried water line. If you can't SHOW the water line, then you just are waving coat hangers in the air.

Last year I needed to find my water line to trace out a leak. The excavator I hired does this all the time. He walked around with his rods and figured out some weird direction changes in the line and marked them, then he started digging. His marks were within a couple feet across the entire yard.

Does the water have to be moving in the pipe for it to work? A open valve and water running?

This works. To test I located: a buried sewer line that I knew its location, a garden hose on the surface and a pocket knife on the floor. It indicated the area I thought the buried water line runs. I have enough faith in the method to where the rods indicate. I used 16 gage galvenized wire 20 inches long with a 6 inch wire "handle". My wife did not have as much success. Guess you have to relax and believe.

As I understand, it’s done all over the world but I cannot really explain the science of the copper wires. There are a couple of comments on this post that did explain it better than I.

We tried this....marked where the wires crossed and dug 5ft....and NOTHING! Smh.... before digging i naked with the wires 6 times to be sure
@deeme7461 Жыл бұрын
Well dang, I’ve heard that soil minerals can also cause the wires to cross, but I cannot attest to that for sure. I hope you strike oil & make it rich! 👍🏼
@jacksprat81882 жыл бұрын
It does work but it's not used because it takes skill, you have to hold them so you are not influencing the rods in any way. However we put them in a 'jig" so to eliminate human error. Also this only works on water lines with water flowing in them. At the end of the day, regulations require you to hydrovac an expose the line, so locating the line is just one step, hydrovacs are expensive.
@deeme74612 жыл бұрын
We tried it several times, and it worked for us. Agree, you shouldn’t dig without certainty.
@deeme74612 жыл бұрын
@@ha-jd7wl Wow, gas lines! Really? Lol. Certainly wouldn’t try that! Nor would we recommend using this method in exclusion of a major dig for construction. What we can say is that it did indeed work for us personally (and a neighbor) as well as a friend in utility work. We may be fun-loving but nope, not quacks. Thanks for watching!

So i had a friend bury a quarter in my yard. Then i took the wires and walked all over the yard from a grid i drew out on some drafting paper i bought at office depot. Not sure if any other kind of paper will work. Also used super small sharpie to draw the lines on the drafting paper. I used black, not sure if blue will work. Then i highlighted the lines with a yellow highlighter so it would be easy to assimilate as i progressed around the yard. It only took me three days to complete the process. I can tell you without a doubt that this is total bs just like this video.
