I have always sang without a break in my voice, and wanted to have a nice light airy falsetto like most female singers so I actually had to teach myself how to sound soft when singing because there’s no area in my voice from A2 to C6 that I have a break. When I was in high school choir, my choir teacher was baffled that my chest voice went so high and then I could not get a ‘head voice’ note as high as my chest voice.

I meant C5. 🤦🏼‍♀️That was a typo I just noticed and I cannot tell a lie 🤦🏼‍♀️ I wish I had a whistle register though. 😂

Max, first of all, this is a very informative video. It's so helpful to see and hear the process one step at a time. One question I have is about twang. I'm noticing that when I make any twang sound, I STILL crack/break, and it seems like twang is supposed to be the middle place where cracking isn't supposed to happen. Also, sometimes that twang sounds more chesty and other times it sounds heady. What am I doing wrong?

Hello. Most likely, you are engaging other muscles to make the twang sound and sometimes you loose the real twang. Because if you twang the sound, you must not crack/break. It’s my suggestion

I definitely could have used more examples of you sliding from higher notes down into chest voice and having your chest be higher each time, that's a very confusing concept and definitely could have used to see you do it

Not all of those examples you gave of twang are actual twang. the puppy sound was "cry" (laryngeal tilt). Might be a little confusing for some.

I can do those things, but I run into trouble on ee and oo. It's like it's harder to sing those vowels with twang or something, or they want to be in headvoice way sooner than the other vowels

The key for me at least, was learning how to form those vowels while keeping your lips as far away as possible from eachother. If you narrow your lips, you're increasing the resistance of your vocal tract, which requires using more breath pressure to get the same amount of air through your vocal folds.

The thing I've learned recently is ee is more like eh or eah like yeah!! And oo is ooaahh woah , it's vowel modification, I recently started learning this and I'm still having problems😂 I basically had to relearn most of my songs to remember where to modify and where I'm not needing to, it's super easy once you get it but remember your modification might be easier or harder than someone else. If this makes sense

I have a question about the "ng" sound. Should I be doing the twangy ng sound in my head voice or chest voice? Because when I try to apply twang to any sound in my head voice my vocal chords don't seem to close properly and I just become hoarse.

Head voice/chest voice is just the amount of the density of your vocal cord closure. You may start in your head voice, add some twang and add chest later. In most cases it’s easier

Also, if you get into your hoarse sound, most likely it’s your false chords. It means, you are very close to that you need. But I can’t say for sure, because I don’t hear the sound

You can twang while singing very softly to avoid hurting yourself. It will sound almost like a mosquito got trapped in your mouth.
