Hello Erin. Thank you for posting these. You are so clear and concise, and your instructions are very helpful. I am on a search for how to Find and Replace all occurrences of double quotation marks that occur within/inside words as opposed to at beginning of words, to speed up changing British single QMs to American double QMs in a book manuscript. When I do Replace All, Word of course changes the appropriately single ones to double ones unless I can prevent that. Otherwise, I have to go correct the problem I just created. Thanks again.

Hello, Carrie. Thank you for watching my video. To find a single character (such as a double quotation mark) inside any word, you can use Word's built-in codes ^? (code for "any character") or ^$ (code for "any letter") before and after the character in the Find text box in the Find and Replace dialog box. For example: ^$"^$ The replacement, however, is more difficult and there are a lot of factors at play. You may want to look at Jack Lyon's excellent book "Wildcard Cookbook for Microsoft Word." Great video! I have a challenge in Finding many Fields in MS Word and Replace the with a certain switch, eg. { EX "Osburn" } to { EX "Osburn"\f "S" } in order to generate a Index of Authors. (I have multiple Indexes). I cannot figure out to do this and have to do it manually. Can you help?

Hi Erin, thank you for your videos, they are very helpful. I'm trying to replace this type of quoting marks "x" by this type «X» but somehow word finds the first but doesn't replace for the latter. Any suggestion?

Thank you so much for watching! Have you tried running two separate find and replace procedures: one for the opening quote and one for the ending quote? In Word, the opening and closing quote marks are usually two different characters.

Thank you for watching! In Word, select Home > Find > Advanced Find. Select "Use Wild Cards" in the Find and Replace dialog box. Select the Special button and then select "Beginning of word" or "End of word." Word will then place a caret symbol in the Find What text box. Type the letters you are looking for and then select Find Next. You can also select Highlight All under the Highlight button. Best of luck!

That is a great question! If you want to delete all the quotation marks, leave the Replace with text box empty in the Find and Replace dialog box.

Thank you for watching! That character is the optional hyphen. To find it, type ^- (caret plus hyphen) into the Find What text box in the Find and Replace dialog box. I wish you all the best!

Thank you for watching my video. I'm afraid I don't know the cause of your problem. Sometimes unexpected lines appear with section or page breaks. Perhaps a break has been accidentally inserted?
