Chiller Approach Value
We measure the efficiency value of a chiller to determine if it is working properly.
If the chiller efficiency value is abnormal, we need to measure the chiller approach value next.
The chiller approach value must be measured at the evaporator and condenser of the chiller.
By measuring, we can find out if there is a problem with the evaporator or the condenser.
Usually, the approach value is more likely to be higher in the condenser than in the evaporator.
This is because the water used in the condenser is at a higher temperature and the minerals in it dissolve in the coil, reducing the flow rate of the water flowing through it.
This reduces the heat transfer between the refrigerant and the water.
This will increase the approach value.
In addition, the water used in the condenser goes to the cooling tower, where it comes into contact with open air, causing a lot of dust to form in the water, which can also block the coil.
The descaling process must be used to remove dust and scale from the coil.
The condenser should be descaled once a year. The evaporator should be descaled once every 2 or 3 years.
The formula for finding the approach value of the evaporator is:
Evaporator Approach Value = Chilled Water Leaving Temperature - Refrigerant Temperature.
The evaporator approach value should be less than 3°F.
The formula for finding the approach value of the condenser is:
Condenser Approach Value = Refrigerant Saturation Temperature - Condenser water leaving temperature.
The Condenser Approach Value should be less than 4°F.
By watching this video in full, you will get a clear understanding of Chiller Approach.

Thank you so much for your appreciation. I didn't mention any particular refrigerant in this video. You can choose any refrigerant for this. All are working same.
