The Survival Guide Luck is back in full swing. The skeleton dropping the bow as you were talking about it doing so, the crystals growing as you were talking about them, zombies dropping carrots AND potatoes, allowing you to further delay talking about villages and letting you get into farming much more easily

Slight spoilers for stuff near his base..... There's actually a double geode in the cave closest to his starter house, about 50 blocks from each other on the same Y level. I discovered this while playing along in my own world using this seed and it's fantastic. One of the two is a HUGE geode. Unfortunately this geode he found doesn't seem to be the same one.

Definitely good to get new perspectives on things as well. My early game differs greatly in many ways, but refreshing to see a new take. Pix has also made more houses in these few videos than I have the entire time I've played Minecraft. I usually just dig out a hobbit hole for early game and branch mine from it until geared up enough to feel confident caving.

While I didn’t learn a single thing, I’m always blessed to be entertained by Pixelriffs. I really enjoy the style of narration, the explanations (even for the stuff I already know). I also like that even though the death could have been edited out and glossed over, it was left in. This shows us mere casual MC players that even the top level pros get killed every now and then. Another excellent Pixelriffs video!

Soooooo, funny story, Pix. Way back in Season One you told us about subtitles and how they can indicate the direction of sounds. And since that day I've insisted on using subtitles despite the confusion of those who watch me. But I remember clearly saying over and over 'But how? How does it tell you which direction?!' I could never figure it out and I was terribly confused. It wasn't until somewhere in the middle of Season Two that you mentioned it again and something clicked in the back of my mind. I looked at the subtitles again and realised, with a colossal screech that the little angled brackets were indicating direction. ... I spent almost the entirety of Season One raging that somehow you must have had some secret, magical way of knowing which direction the subtitles were indicating, until I realised, in fact, I'm just a bit of a derp who wasn't paying enough attention. To hear you say it this time around and mention the angled brackets, made me throw back my head and laugh so very hard that my kids think I'm nuts. I have no idea if you mentioned the brackets in the last two guides, but if anybody out there is remotely like me, I'm sure they're VERY grateful that you mentioned it this time. Much love, Pix. This, as ever, is a wonderful episode.

This series is so good! I really appreciate how thorough you are! I've been playing for a little under 2 years now (introduced to it by my now 10 year old daughter), and still learn something on most of your videos. I was wondering if it makes sense (to your story telling or information sharing) to share how long something took to do? I think you've shared for somethings how long "a thing" took but maybe for example, that caving exhibition, say this was condensed down from an hour or two to fit the 26 minute video? I love your style of tutorial mixed with story telling and your time lapses and music *chef's kiss* but for someone starting out I wonder if it would be helpful to share your actual time played vs the video length? Does that make sense what I'm asking/suggesting? Again, I love what you are doing and this series in particular (I watched your deep dark and skulk episodes SEVERAL times over!), but also know that when I started out I didn't know how long something would take (building a farm, searching for diamonds, finding a dark oak Forrest) and while I know it will different for every player it might help those who are new new to know your caving experience took 2+ hours and that was typical (or not typical). Thank you again so much for sharing! I enjoy all of your videos thoroughly and getting a new episode of this series every day so far has been an absolute treat!

I typically start with villagers. I can't be bothered with caving to mine ores unless it's to light caves up. Usually that supplies enough recourses for first tools and armor and with the first iron farm set up and villager trading you're basically set for the rest of the game.

21:11 I kinda agree with you there Pix, it’s one of the reasons why playing Minecraft is something I am not as passionate as before. Sure, the rework of the Caves gives new biomes to it and a whole new type of adventure, but the desire to find diamonds is one of the few things that makes someone go down there, and strip mining is more of a “grind” rather than exploration. Sure it’s true to the name of “Mine”craft, but since I can still have the tools and armour to villagers, it’s becoming less and less desirable to go there myself. I hope Mojang could find a compromise with that as it feels like a waste reworking the bottom of the world and neglecting it to have a “dark, gloomy city that is protected by one of the strongest monsters in the game” to have the people feel excited and thrilled to go to the bottom of the world. Anyways, great video Pix! I haven’t played Minecraft for so long, and these guides helps me have a general knowledge about the game after all these years

I know this is old but just in case it can help, when caving you can use glow lichen instead of torches to light your way. it can be placed even easier because you can put it on top, sides or even beneath a block, it's not removed by flowing water like torches, in fact it stops the water from flowing. You need more ? use bonemeal and shears to make more on the spot. You can bring some with you or just use the bones of the skeletons you'll kill during your journey and some iron you'll have mined. Only drawback it lights only half as much as torched to and it's not great to mark the way because you can find it at random in caves already and it's also not as noticeable. So I would still grab some torches but use them only at intersections to mark the way.

Pro tip; try mining for diamonds in desert and swamp biomes. This is because Diamond Fossils have a chance of spawning in these biomes that contain even more diamonds, along with some bone blocks that can be turned into bonemeal later. It's literally free diamonds!

Clear out large deposits of tuff blocks to find redstone and diamonds hiding behind them. Tuff breaks quickly and easily, so a large area can be mined in almost no time.

Spawners can be completely disabled by placing a single torch on the top side, which can be useful when making an exp machine. Before this change, you would have to place multiple torches to keep the area around the spawner lit sufficiently to prevent spawns. This makes it much easier.

One of the things I really like about the last hardcore and the current one is the way GemminiTay interacts with the villages and golem. In brings a whole new level of of story telling to the series. Mega trading halls of locked in villagers is for Hermitcraft mega builds.

I finally went caving and went HARDCORE. I found diamonds and made a pikeaxe and made a enchanting and got fortune 3 efficiently mending unbreakable and been going ham since. I found 4 spawners very close to my home base literally like walking distance to each of the little huts I built over the holes. Two zombies gonna make on a automatic XP farm like you make and a skeleton and spider one. Pretty useful tbh just need to find one for a several more if there is and I have ways to farm many of the mobs lol and right next to the spider one is an ancient city? I think it's called lol my first time period so I'm figuring it out. Warden came out and shreked me

2:34 Mobs are not more likely to spawn lower down in the world. The higher rates of farms built low in the world is caused by their lower total height, not their lower position itself. That's why it's recommended to remove the terrain on top of a slime chunk, as that decreases the total height of the farm and makes the mob spawning algorithm run a lot faster.

I appreciate the correction, but at this stage in the series I'm mostly trying to encourage beginner players to be cautious, not explain precise game mechanics. You're more likely to encounter large groups of mobs in lower regions of the world because there's less exposure to sky light, a higher proportion of large unlit areas where pack spawning can take place, higher chance of spawner dungeons generating... plus it's harder to escape dangerous situations because you have further to travel to reach the surface. But while we're here, I'm pretty sure regular mob spawning is generally understood to have increased rates lower down in the world. When 1.18 was in its experimental snapshot phase, the developers briefly changed spawn rates to be consistent across all altitudes. The stated reason was to prevent mob spawns from clustering in the lower areas of the world, and evenly distribute mobs across caves. It wasn't very successful, because other aspects like pack spawning and the hostile mob cap got in the way - and the technical community pointed out that it removed any opportunity to optimize farms - but I'm still pretty sure the developers still knew what they were talking about with regards to mob spawning altitude. Yes, it's most noticeable in farms with a lower maximum height, but it's still plausible that it affects hostile mob encounters while caving to a reasonable degree.

I just have to say, you do a stupendous job with these Minecraft Giude series, Pix! I enjoy them immensely and learn alot. Very well organized and yet super entertaining. I'm following along with you in this world, though a couple episodes behind. Did you find the igloo with the zombie spawner/zombified villager near the house yet??? Thanks so much for doing these.

Build a stray spawner from the skeleton spawner. You just need a bucket of powder snow and a cobweb. They drop arrows of slowness. I did mine without the bubble column elevator. It relies on increased fall damage from the mob dropping on to pointed dripstone. I like to leave chests in the tunnels to stash valuables. If I get killed, all of my eggs are not in one basket. Sometimes I also drop furnaces to smelt while I continue to mine. I empty the chests on the way out of the mine and leave them in place for later trips. A jack-o-lantern is great for marking key points when exploring. Glow lichen is great for lighting up a Nether fortress to farm Wither Skulls. Max 7 light level lets you see where you are going without preventing spawn. I like to go into deep caving expeditions well equipped. Two buckets of water, a bucket of lava, two stacks of arrows, a stack of scaffolding, two stacks of torches, a stack of good food, a boat, and a quarter stack of wood blocks get me through most situations.

I don't like the idea of a creeper blast going through shield, but maybe a compromise would be the strongest hitbox of the explosion breaks the shield in one hit

Love your easy going approach. My family has been playing Minecraft since COVID, starting our second world with a fresh start in 1.20. BTW where you found that block of iron ore is an iron vein you could mine 100s, nay 1000s of iron from that spot. If you find yourself in need of iron go back to there. If you have fortune even better. Thanks again.

Good to note when breaking a block with a skeleton arrow stuck in it the arrow makes a sound like it is being shot. Can be confusing when you think you've already cleared out skeletons. Also, I think you take damage when it happens if you are too close to an arrow-laden block when mining it.

You're doing an amazing job, Pix! Thanks for that! If I remember well in season 2 you obtained the diamond tools by trading instead of mining. What's your preference though? Trading or mining + enchanting table in the early game?
